Is it just me or does the 2011 draft class look EXTREMELY weak?

I've got maybe 10 guys that are legitimate first round talents, compared to last year where there were over 30.

Many of the top high-value positions (DLine, OT, LBer in particular) are really thin as well. Your most valuable position, QB, Luck is the only one I'd even consider using a 1st round pick on. Anyone else I wouldn't even take at the bottom of the 2nd.

If the Panthers do end up with a top 5 pick, let's see... P.Peterson is one of the best CBs to come out in awhile and is my BPA. AJ Green wouldn't be a terrible pick either but all things being equal I'd take Dez Bryant before him and he slid to 24th overall last year, so is Green really worth a top 5 pick?

Though I wouldn't hate those picks, the real problem is being stuck with no choices. You're basically picking from a couple of players or making a huge reach if you want to fill a specific need.

Then what happens if you end up picking around 10th. In all likelyhood the top QB, DE, DT, WR, and probably top 2 CBs are off the board already. And those are really the only guys I have being worth a 1st at their positions, so what the hell do you do then?

Get one of the 2nd tier DLine prospects that could easily be the next Derrick Harvey? Spend a top 10 pick on a guy that's really a 2nd round talent? Or go BPA and take Ingram so he can get like 10 carries a game?

And just one last thing to consider, Andrew Luck, AJ Green, Patrick Peterson, and Marcell Dareus, the top prospects at their respective positions, are underclassmen and could all stay in school another year. Almost always a projected high 1st rounder will go ahead and declare early but if the CBA doesn't go through then who knows.

Here we come Da'Quan Bowers as our top 10 pick... Oohhh f**k me.... suiciden.gif

Luck, Peterson and Green are all elite prospects. I'm sure another 3 or 5 guys will solidify themselves as top 10 picks at the combine. Theres a number of first round caliber defensive linemen in the draft, maybe not that elite guy but lots and lots of depth. Theres Ingram at RB too, honestly I really disagree with you.

I agree, the more I think about it the more I want Peterson....why? Because I don't see Marshall re-signing with this team. Gamble is straight but two shut down corners would be huuuuuuge. Plus he is a play-maker and you can never have too many of those.

A good combine proves you're worth a top 10 pick now? These guys have their entire college careers to show they're elite prospects and if they haven't yet then I don't really care that they ran pretty fast in a straight line without pads.

The whole combine is overrated as hell. It's like people expect a guy to become a dominant player in the NFL because he has great measurables. Well, he had those same physical abilities in college and if he couldn't dominate there against lesser competition what makes you think he will suddenly start to in the NFL?

I remember Mayock saying about the combine, he only uses it to back up what he's already seen on game tape, just another way to further refine the evaluation process. He'd never watch a player struggle on tape and then convince himself he's really a top prospect just because of an insane combine showing.
