School buses doing 45mph in a 65mph

I think an empty bus should at least go the speed limit on a highway. Especially during rush hour.

I would prefer they stay off the highway instead, but if there is no other choice, then I agree.

But I think it would require buying buses that could go 65 for a sustained period. And I am not sure I am ok with giving school bus drivers a bus that can go 65 mph because some of them would in areas that they shouldn't be going that fast.

Best to just have them avoid interstates unless there is no choice. But I don't think the legislature will ever agree to make that a hard and fast rule.

Hey, enjoy the scenery. And chill out. ;)

Just kidding, I usually stay around 5-10 mph over the speed limit on Interstates.

Drivers should try to maintain a speed close to that of the traffic around them. Going significantly slower, or significantly faster than most of the traffic around you is always dangerous.

yeah I always stay 5 over.. that IS the speed limit.. (love someone to tell me they ever got pulled going 5 over) but I do stay under 10, only reason being the last thing I need is a ticket..

and you are right on point.. going below the speed limit is just as dangerous..

This is really an issue. They slow 485 traffic down so much, and the biggest issue is when they are getting ON 485. People around here don't even understand interstates anyway (you don't slow down till you get ONTO the offramp, and you shouldn't need to use brakes that often on the interstate) so it makes it worse. The buses are usually empty like you guys have said, but I have also seen a bus get onto 485 just to go from the Johnston Rd. exit to the Rae Rd exit. In that short time, almost causing accidents and delaying traffic. It's just not worth it.

And I honestly believe slow traffic is MUCH more dangerous than someone going 5-10 over (obviously if someone is going 100 it's dangerous).
