AGH! My boss makes me so mad

I'm a firm believer that you learn way more on the job about your current role than you do in school. Promoting people just because they have a "formal" education is totally wrong as there is quite often someone else that knows it better!

its wrong, but thats what it is. My dad always told me how important it was to earn a degree, because since he didnt have one, there was a ceiling on how high he could rise.

My brother and college didnt get a long great, and although he has a good IT job, he will be limited.

Back when I sold copy machines we had these blonde girls who could always an appointment but never close any business. Meanwhile every appt I got I pretty much closed. Why? Because I didn't have to earn credibility once I got in. They were never taken seriously.

You talk teeth. I'll talk sales.

Pffft

Son of a salesman that came from nothing....I'll comment, but thanks for playing. And my job does require a lot of selling these days.

Clearly your powerful sales observational skillz completely missed what I said was part 2 AND THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF the game....

Knowing HOW to sell.

The LOOK gets you IN the door.

IT HELPS, it doesn't seal it.

Pay attention.

I know because I BUY from these types.

The game is a two way street.

ya...my opinion might be painted in bitterness right now as I just got passed up for two promotions to people with "an education". I have the lowest self esteem and self confidence of pretty much anyone you'll ever meet, but I can openly and clearly tell you I am much more qualified than either of these two people!!!

I don't have a college degree, I went to ECPI and got a diploma there. I do have a nice paying job and I think I have climbed the ladder as high as I can without a degree. I need to go back and get one.

Worked at 2 small (between 25 and 300 employees)companies since college. Neither CEO went to college.

Unless your goal is middle management in a company, always trying to climb the greasy pole to the top. Don't worry about it. If you want more venture out and do your own thing using the knowledge you have aquired.

What I've learned since school -> outside of doctor, lawyer go to college if you want to work for someone else.

Well at the moment, I am reporting directly to the CFO. The problem with this company, we don't have VP position for IT (or director for that matter). So, with the job market the way it is, I will have to have a degree, plus more work experience (have 10 years now) to get to those positions.
