Let's Talk Passing Defense

If we can get the right coaching staff in offseason and develop our rookies, along with D-Lo, Goodson, and Stewart we could have a potentially high-scoring offense. If we can shore up the problems on the defensive line we could have all the ingredients to a true consistent contender. Just depends on if the new coach can figure out how to properly use them.

I agree. While it's still too early to get excited, I can't help but feel like a shroud of darkness lifted off of our offense this past weekend.

I can finally see some good potential there. We just may have some guys that can do something with that ball when it's in the air.

I really can't wait until this weekend to see if we can see more of that. Who says the season is over? I'm actually pretty stoked about the upcoming game. This season is turning out to be one of the most entertaining to follow despite our team having nothing to do with playoffs or Superbowl talk.

If you are talking about a Meeks defense then possibly true. If you are talking about the Panthers then definitely not true. Jenkins was a beast against the run. And Trgo's defenses were pretty stout against the run.

I miss Jenkins. You're right, he really was a beast, even though he seemed to be very injury prone. He played with heart, and as we all know, he wasn't exactly the quiet type. But I liked that about him......not that I can relate to that or anything;)

It's amazing how much QBs just avoid Gamble.

I know. It's amazing how underrated Gamble is sometimes.

I wish our pass rush and run d was better, but with how much time our d has been on the field, I've been generally impressed with them.

A good pass D ranking would be much more impressive if we were having a winning season. A good pass D ranking for a loosing team usually means opponents are simply running the ball more to kill the clock.

Given our scoring over the last 6 weeks I'm inclined to believe we fall into the latter.

Although we haven't been getting sacks, we've forced a lot of inaccurate throws with pressure.. and that's even more deadly than a sack. eventually teams will start taking the sacks if we begin to capitalize on turnovers. We can't have another game like chicago where we get 4 INTs and don't really get anywhere with it.

I'm batting something like 0 for 1,400 for good posts. This guy does it on his first one.

Overachieving Dickhead.

Haha I was just on NFL.com lookin at stats and noticed our rankings and felt like sharing. I always knew our Pass D was all right but didnt realize it had given up so few yards.

In a season with so many negatives its nice to see one positive. Granted we haven't played against that many good QBs so far, so I'm still anxious to see what our DBs can do against the likes of Flacco, Ryan, Bradford, and Roethlisberger.

This is a John Fox team though, we'll get several picks against the better QBs before Delhomme comes in and lights us up.

Marshall's been in my doghouse a bit this season (something which matters pretty much only to me) but he did come up big last week. We'll see what happens next.

I get the feeling that Marshall got a little cocky after his performance last season. Didn't he hold out of minicamp last spring due to his contract situation? Perhaps he thought he was already good enough and did not need to focus as much this season. Either way, he hasn't been terrible, but he definitely has been underperforming.
