When Fox Leaves Next Year

Also forgetting a couple of things...

One, while I believe Fox will get another head coaching job, it's doubtful he'll be a "full control" guy. The GM will make those decisions. Whether Fox has much say in it would be unknown.

Second, any team Fox goes to is going to have established players. Guys that are free agents for the Panthers may not fill a need for another team.

Lots of variables in play here.

Good points. Kirwan mentioned it on his radio show this afternoon making me think, so I posted the question.

There will be change and other than the coaches we may not like it

Even if fox winds up in a DC position any GM worth his salt takes input from his coaches on personnel. Fox knows our guys better than anyone else.

Valid. It can work both ways though. Sometimes a coach's knowledge of a player leads him to tell the team "stay away from this guy".

Can't honestly name anyone I think that applies to here, but it happens.

I'm not honestly sold on the idea that Fox is going anywhere. He's playing out the big payday year of his contract, it's obvious that there's an effort to build a future team here, and JR wouldn't want to put money on the table until he knows that there will be a reason to even pay a coach for 2011.

Remember, coaches contracts are different from players' contracts and they are afforded guarantees that players wouldn't get. Player strike in 2011? Players don't get paid. Coaches, however, will still receive their contracted pay.

I am.

All indications are that he believes he's worth more than Richardson believes he's worth. Couple that with this season's awful start, and even a big rally to end the year probably isn't enough to keep him here.

And honestly, while I think he's a good coach overall, I do believe that the combo of the panthers and Fox has gone as far as it can. Both sides would likely benefit from a fresh start.

I am starting to think the same, if Fox gets this team to 8-8 or better, I bet JR gives him a new deal.
