AE trade was a trade that didn't need to happen. I think it was really dumb to trade up for a project that might not be here under a new regime. That was Hurney blunder.

Gettis had a great game. Kerry Colbert had some great games as a rookie as well. That being said, Gettis doesn't look like a Kerry Colbert. He seems to have that fire inside.

Nothing is even yet IMO.

how can you say the front office shouldnt try to get projects when we did so on gettis as well and it might be paying off. way to early to see what AE has to offer. the pick was high in my book but sometime you have to try on some talented projects and hope to hit on them. if we picked soley on safe pick only we wouldnt have gettis. i remember there was a stretch of a few years where our drafts where so safe they where boring. i think that is one reason we had issues getting skill at WR. let the AE thing ride for a bit and lets see what we get. i dont understand why that concept is so hard for people.

Why can't we make consistently smart moves throughout the draft and free agency, rather than one smart move followed up by an insanely retarded one that "evens it out". All that ever gets you is an inconsistent mediocre franchise.

Ya I hate how we keep missing on first round picks :(

The concept is hard for some to get because we traded up to get him. He would have been available later for a lesser price. I have no problem drafting guys to develope, but you do that in the late rounds like with Gettis. AE could have been picked later. Hurney was fooled by the Patriots who were sending out flairs that they were going to draft him.

Gettis wasn't a stretch because of where he was picked.

The Panthers wanted AE and he would not have been there on their next pick, so why does everybody always focus on the questionable moves that the Panthers make? Lets look at what they did later in the draft by getting Gettis and Hardy. Pretty good moves wouldn't you say? AE is a project and could end up being a good player but we will not know until at least next year. You win some and you lose some, so just let it go and focus on the steals we got in the later rounds.

The OP asked the question if Gettis playing well evens things out with the Armanti pick. I responded and happen to think it does not. Gettis and Hardy were great picks. The AE trade was a wasted pick. And I'm not 100% certain he would have been gone the very next pick like many on here. What's done is done. I didn't start the thread.

I wanna know how the hell AE is gonna even out the trade(Top 35 pick) in a year or two because we all know he is going to ride the bench for pretty much the rest of this year.

Well considering that his pick isn't even used until next year technically, if he doesn't play at all this year it doesn't really have any bearing on his worth. It's what he does next year when the pick is actually used that it even begins to remotely matter. This year is basically a year in which to teach him the tools of the trade and get him prepared for his future. IF they had used a second round pick that they already had for him during this draft and he didn't play, people might have more right to bitch, but as it stands he has time to make up for the value.
