Trying not to be a Matt Moore homer...

Screw it be a Moore homer. He has actually won a game with this team unlike every single other QB on the roster.

Heck, even when Moore was playing bad in those first two games, he at least moved the team forward a little bit and didn't waste a bunch of downs by fumbling snaps. If we would have had even a little bit of offense against Chicago, New Orleans, and Cincy, we could have won those three games.

Having said that, I was fine with giving JC a chance but he simply didn't get it done. He can certainly still be a good QB in the future, but he's not even close to being ready right now.

i feel fine with the idea of moore being a backup. he's probably one of the better options there are out there. he's at least better than josh mccown whom i considered to be the best backup leading into last year. i like mccowns experience as a QB more just because he has such a diverse range of experiences with teams and coaches. moore is someone that you can probably plug in with a team and a simplified playbook and do pretty well. i just don't see him as being someone a franchise can be built around or someone that can handle the pressure of being the man...at least not yet. he's got quite a way to go this season. lucky for him we are playing some weak teams. thats probably going to help him find a job somewhere if the new regime moves on from him.

one thing, though, i still think he's going to be on a short leash, just like he was at the beginning of the season. he goofs up a couple games and it's going to be clausen time all over again. might even see pike start a game or two just for giggles if neither moore nor clausen can make the most of their 2nd chance.

I do want to say one thing as far as the back-up subject goes:

Ain't going to happen. At least not when the season starts.

Either Matt will play good enough to be here as a starter next year or he won't be here at all.

The only way he'll be a back-up here is if:

1. He gets injured this year and when he comes back next year his spot will be filled(no one else is likely to sign an injured player) so he has no choice.

2. He gets signed as a starter, but then gets injured next year or loses the job due to poor performance next year.

With the exceptions of those 2 scenarios, Matt Moore will NOT be a back-up QB on this team next year. Even if he doesn't make a name for himself this year, enough for him to find a starting position somewhere else, there will be plenty of other teams that will offer him a back-up position where his chances of earning a start will be greater than the Panthers, a team that already evaluated him extensively and would pass on him as a starting QB.

.

start preparing for him to not be here, as i have posted before both he & the team will have options. several teams may interest him(jacksonville, arizonia, oakland, san fran to name a few).every one of these teams have issues at qb & may offer more money & the chance to start. so no matter how well he plays here i doubt we resign him no matter who comes in as coach.

That's basically what I said.

Except I don't see why we wouldn't sign him as a starter if he ends up playing lights out. Unless the coach that comes in brings his own winning QB, why would we let a winning QB go?

If he finishes out strong, and a new regime comes in depending on what they're looking for he might be kept around longer than Clausen, a more likely scenario is he's kept as the starter, clausen remains and they bring in a third (cutting pike) that's experienced in whoever's system.

This of course is all speculative if Moore doesn't poo the bed again.

cause we(Hurney,JR)are not sold on building around Moore. add in that Moore will be a free agent & may command somewhere in the 6 to 8 million range adds even more doubt in my mind that he is here next year. he might not say it , but Moore knows the FO is high on Clausen & will explore his options if he is smart

As I've said before I liken Moore to Derek Anderson or Shaun Hill or John Kitna. He is a great backup and is capable of having a big game but generally when the pressure is off.

I'm not at all saying the Clausen is the answer btw, I just don't see how Moore gets over his blown opportunity to lead the team when it counted. If he turns things around and takes this team to the playoffs, I think he greatly increases his chances of returning but doesn't guarantee it.
