Can someone tell me what's wrong with Stewart?

The Question

Defenses are stacking the box because Carolina runs the ball a lot. We luckily had Matt Moore slinging it around to the tune of 308 yards yesterday to help offset the abysmal running game. I think Hoover and Otah being out do make a difference. I don't expect Otah to play at all this season.

He's trying to dance around people instead of running them over. He looks like he doesn't want to get hit, which is not good. There will be times when Stew has a yard or three between him and a defender and instead of plowing through it, he dances to the outside to try to avoid said defender and gets tackled for a 1-2 yard gain instead of the 4 yards he woulda had otherwise - or more if he just ran the guy over. =\

I hope he finds his mojo, too...

Also, I hope we can utilize D-Will out of the backfield more to get him in space... with something other than screens, since our screens seem predictable as hell yesterday =(

Something that I've noticed is that he doesn't do that high step anymore to break tackles. Both parts of double trouble aren't really breaking tackles like they used to. But, yeah this can stem to the offensive line not generating holes, consequentially giving our backs 2X the amount of defenders to have to run through. This is why I think we should use Goodson more until we get Otah back. It will prevent further wear and tear for Stew and D'lo.

I think he's been frustrated since the beginning of the season. He hasn't had that many carries at all. The last game was the most all year. Not practicing at all in the offseason I'm sure doesn't help too.

But whenever Stewart comes into the game 95% of the time he is getting the ball, so opposing defenses have stacked the box and brought extra guys to help stop the run. And the offensive line hasn't opened any noticable running lanes that I have seen this year. We now never run through the right side like we have the past 3 years.

And before the last game we haven't had any passing threat so the D has been geared to stop the run. D Williams hasn't impressed much at all as well, but looks better than Stewart because he's a speedy, cutback runner who has mainly picked up yds by beating defenders to the outside. So what does that tell us? Mainly, the oline hasn't been doing a good job in run blocking, besides Kalil.

While we almost always run it once one of them comes in the game on the first play they're in, yesterday at least we were throwing equally out of both of them.

Look, it's not about his production - look how he handles people coming at him. He dances to the side, he tries to evade them, he doesn't hit them and run them over... =\ I understand the whole idea of him having more people TO run over, but he seems to be trying to protect himself.

I think both our RBs don't trust our O-Line worth a damn, and why should they?

the main problem with stewart and williams is that the defenses has been blitzing on rushing downs and been very aggressive in getting behind the LoS and hitting both of them before they could build up steam. it doesn't take much for wither guy to get going but it takes more than what they've been given.

as soon as defenses start pulling back to guard against the pass more, things will start opening up. we still have to get more creative with fakes and get the defenses to start worrying about getting burned by the receivers.

No, you're wrong.. There were times when he had holes he just had absolutely no acceleration whatsoever.

Sorry but your wrong. I saw several times where he showed burst. There are just no holes to run threw. The only lineman getting to the second level is Kalil. Gross,Wharton,Dude, and Williams are getting no push.

Along with that teams are blitzing the crap out of us. So LBs and S are there to plug the gaps even before they are open.

Its not that Dwill or Stewart are different. Its that we are getting no push from the line. In part because we did not practice it in preseason and training camp.
