Rumor: Eagles could try for Gross

The Eagles could address their tackle situation in a variety of ways. They could re-sign one or both of their tackles. They could make a pitch for Carolina's Jordan Gross, who, at 28, will be the most valuable free-agent tackle if the Panthers don't give him the franchise tag. They could slide Todd Herremans or Shawn Andrews to one of the tackle spots. They could use one of their two first-round draft picks on a tackle.

Looks like pure speculation to me.

Yet the days tick by and we hear nothing about contracts. The coaches that remain are off to the senior bowl. The coaches themselves have no contracts. There is simply far too much to be done at the moment and I can see this coming dangerously close to Gross hitting the market. Let's be honest, with the Peppers situation Gross' agent is going to hard ball us completely and is probably telling Gross to not sign anything. Especially after them not getting a deal last year AND being moved all over the place.

Speculators are only good for driving up the price of oil.

ditto, So far he's been speculated to have everyone from the Rams to the Eagles, Redskins and every team that's looking for a anchor LT in the NFL, this is going to happen until we sign him, don't expect anything until next week.

the Small details were that the Panthers probably wanted to back load the Contract and he didn't, which would make sense to me, with how the NFL is I would want as much money up front as I could get, remember Moose lost $10 million in a roster bonus because his contract was back loaded, and that was the reason he left he still had another year on his contract but the Panthers decided to release him before he got the $10 million he was owed and we all know how that turned out.

No contracts will be finalized this week because of the senior bowl practices. Now is the time to rub elbows with agents and make progress through talking only. I wouldn't be surprised if we have to wait until the final week of Feb. (just before free agency begins) before something gets finalized, or hits a stalemate which I really fear might happen.

See, I would classify that as "money issues" not small details. And Hurney actually has a history of front loading contracts not back loading them (Moose's contract didn't come from Hurney I don't think).

I think the small details could have more to do with personal appearenses or something similar to that.

My point being that if money wasn't the issue, and remember teams can spread gaurtee money throughout the contract, then I think Gross truely wants to stay in Carolina. That will be a make a big difference in him staying or leaving. I'm sure his asking price went up due to this past season and the Peppers situation but considering that the Panthers offered him a contract last year with full intention of signing Peppers to a rather large contract, the cap space should be there to re-sign Gross.

    • I'm more impressed with the UDFA that the guys they have drafted in the first the last 2 years. A whole lot of prove it is still needed before any improvement should be talked about seriously.
    • Sure.    ignore that he said this roster wasn’t good in 2023 to 2024 but keep up the effort
    • While I don't believe its a must win, (we have been better on the road this post season) it is definitely A NEED TO WIN the longer this series goes the more pronounced the Canes advantage on rest and health will be! If we hold serve at home in games 1 and 2 guaranteeing a 6 game minimum series for them if we lose the road games..... by the game 4 and 5 I expect them to be beat they have played A LOT OF HOCKEY the last three years, they have MINIMAL rest off a more physical than one might have expected series vs the leafs.... you know Tampa took their pound of flesh in round 1 from them. Combine all that with the fact that even though this year's canes squad isn't as talented as last years this IS a better squad than the one they swept last time that had McKenzie Mckeathern on line 1 Turbo with a broken hand a banged uo and eventually concussed Slavin (and even though it was a sweep 6 OTS and 4 1 goal losses is hardly dominant)  This year Bob hasn't been superman (hes probably gonna still have a great save percentage agiast us just a side effect of our style) Thatchuk is maybe 50% (3 game winners agiast us) their defense no longer has Gudas and several other downgrades.  While the Canes have a healthy and performing Svechnikov along with other big guys to counteract florida like Carrier, Jankowski, Robinson.   I by know means think it will happen but I either see this as a low scoring dog fight or a series were the canes surprise and end up dominating.
