Recommended Posts

I have seen tons of posts on this board the past couple of days about Peppers getting traded for this player or Peppers getting traded for these picks. Then I see someone say no one can replace Peppers. Well if we indeed trade Peppers for picks. You might wanna find someone that can replace him

Orapko has all the same negatives Peppers did

Durability is a major concern...Inconsistent...Motor runs hot and cold...Repertoire of pass rush moves is limited...Average instincts and awareness...Doesn't use his hands well...Has a narrow base...Is not overly stout at the point of attack and can be run at...Has some trouble shedding blocks...Underachieved early in his career...Is he a 'tweener?

the best in there is GA TECH end Michael Johnson... kid is a monster! that is who we need if we go DE.

im really for going stud DT, i think charles johnson will be a fine NFL starter... an i liked hilee taylor comin off the bench for pass situations....

Orapko has all the same negatives Peppers did

I have read that his 'hustle and effort' are what gets him sacks on nfldrafscout...

Regarding Johnson, he sounds like a bit of a project as he needs to put on serious bulk to be capable to play every down at DE and chances are he will be more of a pass rush specialist.

Ive read the same thing and Im no Texas fan, but if you watch him play its obvious hes on another gear then most of the players on the field, so Im not sure what they see to knock him on that.

On Johnson, hes actually alot closer to being every down DE size. Peppers is the exception most 4-3 DE's are in the 265-280 range, look at Justin Tuck(275), Jarred Allen(270) and even Osi(260). While I agree Johnson would need to add some muscle, its nothing that cant be done pretty quickly through a little hard work. I honestly wouldn't be suprised if by drafttime he had put on 5-10 pounds of muscle.

I think it's more that his frame is very lanky and has long arms and thus he has very lean muscle definition. That generally means shorter, stouter players will treat him like a rag doll. He will basically be going against OTs who have the same frame but an extra 50-80 pounds on them in pure explosive muscle fibres. It's a complete mis-match and a big reason why rookies rarely do well in their first season on a DL.

Looking at the other guys you picked out Tuck did not start for three years, Allen split time in his first year and Osi did not start until his third year. they all had time to adjust their leaner muscles to more explosive fast twitch muscles allowing them to deal with the stockier opponents.

Regarding Orakpo I think they meant that he does not get sacks due to sounds mechanics and technique and that it is his motor that gets them instead. So basically they ar saying he is raw technique wise and could struggle at the next level to consistently generate pressure as he is pure effort. If he get's decent coaching though....

What have you read about Everette Brown because all I know is from watching youtube videos because being a Pac10 fan Ill admit I dont watch much ACC football.

Well he is ranked the highest of all Des at the moment and appears to have the complete package. Very explosive and good lower body strength and also has good and varied mechanics and techniques. Only real negative is that he has limited upper body strength and thus could easily be taken out of games via double teams.

Oh and any team thinking of using him in a 3-4 might need to re-consider as he has absolutely no experience in coverage despite being played in a stand up stance. Seems they only ever sent him on blitzes from that position.

EDIT - Forgot that a lot of scouts will worry about the effectiveness of FSU pass rushers as they have historically been busts. Apparently this is a genuine concern and could hurt his stock.

Good write up thanks, I still think out of the three I would prefer Orakpo or Johnson even if they were only situational this season. We can always bring in a vetern DE to play on running downs this season.
