does anyone else think that half the distance to the goal is excessive? Seems to me like 15 yds automatic first down would be sufficient.

If that was the case everytime a corner was beaten 35 yards down the field they'd simply tackle the WR if possible before the ball got there.

And isn't it a spot of the foul penalty?

YUP, it's spot of the foul.

It's seems a little much, but it keeps the corner as honest as you can if he is beat even just a little.

They can hold and get a 5 yard penalty, but they have to figure out that as soon as they get beat before the ball gets there and not hope for a sack or a shitty throw to bail them out.

You see it in college all the time, CB gets beat off the line and the CB holds, 15 yards, but he didn't give up the big yards or the TD. It would happen even more in the NFL. At least this way it keeps it honest....to a point.

agreed...need to keep it as a spot foul I think.

What I'd like to see, is an unsportsmanlike foul for each time the receiver gets cleanly beat and then jumps up off the ground whining for a flag...I can't stand it.
