No idea. FWIW, I'm agnostic and I don't think of any deity when I hear the song. I think of America.

I was Buddhist for a big part of my life. I still subscribe to many of his beliefs. When you pick up and read the Teachings of Buddha you will see that Christianity and Native American culture was greatly influenced by his teachings. That Buddha predated Christianity be at least 1000 years!

Buddha believed he was of mortal parents but his Father was a higher being (Sound familiar? Like Jesus?) He taught that you should never judge someone without first walking on their path. (A familiar Native American saying is, "Never judge someone before you walk a 1000 miles in their moccasins!")

Anyway to answer your question. I'm with Dimbee, I think of America. Whether you worship Buddha, Jesus, (I will keep my opinions of Muslims to myself!) or you're a Pagan or Wiccan. You can ask your own Deity to bless America.
