Pike?

What is the story on this kid? I was at a sports bar chatting one day and a lot of people there was believing Pike is/was the best QB on the roster. I don't remember ever seeing him in college play or anything. Can anyone recall how this kid is and why we haven't given him a shot yet? Since basically this season is shot, well not really but it will be once we lose more games, why not see what we have on the roster. Switch it up more. Hell even stick Armanti in there and see what he can do as a QB. I just want to know what we have on the roster. Honestly, I support anyone at our QB position if it is an improvement. How about Testeverde? Ok I kid I kid, lol. No but seriously how is Pike?

Go watch practice. That's the primary method coaches use to determine how talented a player is.

The old "he has a pulse so give him a shot" thread?

Pike came from a spread offense and from all accounts is still learning the playbook.

Clausen (and Moore) have an execution problem, they don't have the bandwidth problem that Pike has coming from a system that did not prepare him for the NFL.

But he has the luxury of watching for a while without getting thrown into the fire. I am sure he is thrilled.

Pike showed a lot of poise and some nice accuracy in college. Some of his game will translate to the NFL, but as other posters have said, it's a steep learning curve. Remember, he was also not at the first training camp activities due to school. While I'm sure he's caught a lot of stuff up by now, for someone coming that program, he would have had to show A LOT in the practice time he had to really make the Panthers consider throwing him out there now.

We may see him much later in the season if we see a total implosion out of the other two, but I think we're more likely to end up running the wildcat exclusively with some AE sprinkled in than we are to see Pike much barring injury to one of the top two.

Sadly, you are probably right. I would just like to do anything to give this team a spark..Hell put Sir Purr under center and see what he has....

Actually I saw Sir Purr play in the mascot bowl at halftime of the Bears game. He'd be as good a quarterback as John McCain with those useless arms, which is to say he'd be a much better place kicker.
