Could Matt Moore be in a similar situation as Vince Young was last season?

it's time for a change but other than the names of the WRs and the QBs, we likely aren't going to be seeing any change this year. this is foxball. it is what it is.

Totally agree.

While I'm hopeful Moore will have some revitalization, even if he does play as well as he did in those games last year he'll need a lot of help... and not just from his WRs.

Your steelers comparison was awesome, btw. Nice job.

you can't run well if you don't have a passing game. that passing game was good enough to open up the run game. ours isn't. oh...phil simms in '86 >>> any QB on our roster in 2011 and it isn't even close. the dude had respect in the league and had just come off a probowl year (when that actually meant something). defenses wouldn't dare pulling on him what they are pulling on our green QBs.

our QBs aren't respected. our WRs aren't respected. our run game is going to keep getting stuffed until the passing game draws people out of the box.

/my part in the derailment.

True..but I wonder how do guys like Steven Jackson and MJD successfully run year after year despite playing on bad teams..and Dwill and Jstewart cant?

 okay.

icompletion percentage:

steelers- 62.0 (16th)

panthers- 45.3 (.

I said the 1st 4 weeks of the Steelers season, you threw in week 6 after Rothlisberger was back.

For instance week 2 the Steelers passsed for 21 yards, and beat a very good Titan team.

Anyways, the Panthers biggest problem is their coaching staff realizing their players strengths and putting them into position to succeed. Their passing game is pathetic, so lets pass more in order to set up the run. Fail, fail, fail.

Can't wait until next year and a better coaching staff.

Thing is the Titans ran a lot of option, counter-option when VY took over and completely changed their offense to suit his strengths. They did things defenses weren't used to and Chris Johnson made a lot of big plays because of it. Can you imagine Fox and Davidson doing something like this? Didn't think so.

I agree that in the long run, running will win the game. But the defense needs to be loosened up to get the run to work and if we come out running first, it will be shut down and then the passing game will follow and we will get what we have been getting for 5 weeks....another loss.

I agree with this but the failure that is our coaching staff would not make it work even if we did. How a OC can't figure out how to beat a FS in the box is beyond me. Yea our oline is crapy but we could have slid Wharton over to RT game 3 and been fine. Not great but fine none the less.

Right now we have a scrub at RT and a QB that has no leadership. I wonder what the Vegas odd of that panning out is.

I really feel like Moore will be better...I think he was pressing at the beginning of the year and he was trying to make the big play instead of taking what the defense would give him. His INT's in the first game were all inside the 20 and he was trying to force it in for a touchdown every time. I hope he has realized that all he needs to do is make smart throws and let the receivers do the rest. Also, as sad as it is, I feel like we have improved the receiving corps with the additions of clowney and Thomas...if only by experience.

I like your remarks, but why does it have to be "as sad as it is"? I think it's great if we have improved our receiving corps, no matter the names. Let's give the guys a chance. Like I have alluded to in another thread, we have really yet to see what our new additions can do. Yeah, there may have been some questions regarding the route running and/or extracurricular activities, but that can be fixed. Clowney played behind a lot of talent, and, arguably, Thomas was shepherded into the dog house for reasons outside of football.

It doesn't matter what he can do if our O-Line can't block and WRs not named Smitty can't catch. That has to shape up before anything with Moore or Jimmy takes place.

I agree that the O-line needs to get it together (as I have mentioned in another post),but related to my point above, the only receiver that you could really argue "can't catch" with a straight face is Lafell. Yeah he had questions coming out of college, but he still has his entire pro career ahead of him, so let's be optimistic (and positive) about him getting it together. On the real tip, ironically, Smitty has been the only other receiver that we have that "can't catch", using your intimation, but do you really want to say that? Yeah, Smitty has dropped a few, but he has proved that he can catch (and more). Give the guys a break until we have an appreciable sampling to evaluate.

In the sense that most thought that Young had lost his mojo and was a complete bust but surprised many when the team was down and they turned back to Young to only began a winning streak.

Sometimes it takes someone to be benched to realize what he really has and that is motivation to prove the doubters wrong...

Btw, I am not an advocate for Moore or Clausen, I just want something to happen that will spark this team.

I have been one of these doubters, in the sense that I am skeptical that Moore can be a consistently productive starter in the NFL, so I hope that he does prove me wrong. I have thought about it and have conceded that perhaps I have been too hard on the guy (and that my consternation may have been a little "knee-jerk" and emotional). Perhaps it's like the WRs: we may not have seen an appreciable sampling. I know that this is the case with Clausen, but I am going to give Moore the benefit of the doubt. And though I don't believe he is the franchise QB that I desire, I am going to be as objective as I can, and observe the rest of the season as objectively as I can (putting more of the responsibility of our failings on the O-line and coaching). At this point the season can't get any worse, and if Moore is the spark that helps get the guys going, then great. He needs to pull it together and stop throwing pics in the end zone. I would rather him play "scared" like Clausen, than to press for something that ain't there. Either way, before I get killed by the failure of the coaching and a swiss cheese O-line, I would say "f**k it!", and throw the ball in Fox's or Davidson's direction.

It's not the fact that we are passing but the manner we are approaching it. We are so stale I'm sure a Madden 2011 comp could defeat Davidson 9 out of 10 times.

i think matt moore's career is over. and this season is done. we're staring at a 3-13 season. the only teams i see us beating is Cleveland, St. Louis, and maybe Seatle or Tampa. this season is in the tank, and i'm cool with that. i hope we don't win any of our games. so we'll have a pick to trade away for more picks.
