CatMan's 10/21 practice observations

...these guys know they suck.... and that they suck because the FO has been about the bottom $ and not winning rings for the past 2 years....

Every player from 1 to 53 should be walking around thinking they're the best, and should strive to be the best. We as fans may see the FO as being cheap, but the players shouldn't be mad that we didn't trade for Haynesworth or pick up TO. They should be telling Johnson and Landri to strive to be the best DT's they can be, and telling DT and DG to strive to be Boldin and TO.

"should"...but this is business....and when you know the management mailed it in 2 years ago then, well, everyone starts to mail it in...even if it's not conscious mailing it in...its just spreads like a cancer....even the great players seem to be a step behind...

well, I think Smitty was right around his average in terms of balls while Moore was playing. I think the speed of the game and excessive coverage made Jimmy too cautious about looking for him. Moore seems to have the Jake mindset....put 11 defenders on Smitty and he is gonna try to keep him involved.

So he is hitting Smith more but also throwing way more picks while he is at it.

Again, pick your poison. Clausen was turning the ball over less, but also hitting Smitty less.

So CatMan, was there anything positive from today's practice? Something or someone must have looked decent/okay. I hope that isn't wishful thinking...

Well, our defense looked good - we stopped our offense from getting any kind of a passing game going... :ihih:

only thing we have to remember is it isn't just about Moore/Clausen throwing the ball in practice......

outside of Smitty...you have garbage WRs up against some solid CBs. I mean, LaFell working against Marshall doesn't mean a pass should be completed. Gettis vs. Gamble etc. QBs could put the ball where it is suppose to be and the WR doesn't get there...or the WR might not be getting open. I mean, i have even watched Captain blanket Fitzgerald from the moment the ball was snaped until the play was over.....The DBs imo are signifcantly better than the WRs not named Smitty.

True, but from my vantage point Moore (and Clausen) were just missing guys... balls sailing over their head, etc.

In that 1 on 1 drill at a certain point the QB has to throw the ball, so some of the high throws may have been the best throw they could make to a WR that could not get open, but Smitty was involved in those drills and they struggled throwing the ball to him as well.

In the 11 on 11 drills, I did see both Moore and Clausen connect with Smitty on a few throws.
