Magic Johnson preping for NFL team in LA?

LOS ANGELES -- Magic Johnson told the Los Angeles Times that he would be interested in bringing an NFL team back to L.A., but he hasn't had any talks with the league.

Johnson recently sold his small ownership stake in the Lakers to Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong and sold his Starbucks outlets back to the company, fueling speculation about his future.

The Hall of Famer told the newspaper he has no plans to buy the Los Angeles Dodgers or purchase a stake of the Golden State Warriors or Detroit Pistons. He says he talked to the Warriors, but nothing came of it.

The 51-year-old Johnson says he "really, really wants the NFL to come back to L.A." but hasn't had any conversations with the league.

Sounds a bit premature.

But money talks and a stadium is planned and waiting.

I'd love it if Magic was the owner, he has tremendous goodwill in Los Angeles. I couldn't imagine an owner who has a rapor with the media and fans when you compare JR and Panther management. Imagine, enthusiasm and a big smile from the front Office.

It's doesn't matter how bad ass the stadium is, nobody is going to support a loser.

You need a ownership group committed to winning.

The TV rights and merchandising alone for such a big market makes the move logical. There is no reason a top 10 world city wouldn't have a sports team
