We went as a family we got to take a tour of the cave under the Lincoln Memorial. I was like 9 so I'm sure I remember it being cooler than it is.

If you do decide to go to any other sites checkout their website. There are a few you need tickets for they are free but you can go online and get the tickets. The big one is the Washington Monument you need to go on atleast 4 weeks before and get the tickets or you have to show up early in the morning. If you dont have much time atleast to them to Arlington Cemetery. Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers and also go to checkout Arlington House. You get the best view IMO of DC from there. It is free and near a metro line. My favorite thing to do is walk from the Jefferson to the Lincoln Memorial.

Thanks for all the advice here guys... took the kids up this weekend for a quick trip and really only had time to do that festival that was going on. We had a good time... lots of people up there and man does DC have more than it's fair share of weirdos...

We definitely will be planning a follow-up trip to hit the museums and monuments in a few months...

I did... and I watched the game on my phone while we were up there thank you very much. My kids are more important...

BTW, walked by the Canadian Embassy while there... pretty nice place...
