Smitty returns to practice

It's pretty clear that Moore and Smitty have more chemistry, I just don't believe that Smith is the kind of player to fake or prolong an injury to avoid playing with someone else. I personally believe he wants to compete and win more than he wants to play with "his guy."

Exactly.

Does Smitty prefer Moore over Clausen? Very possible.

Would he lfake still being injured because Clausen was still the starter? Not likely.

Add to the fact that MurkN presented.

Clausen to smitty: 33 yards 0 TDs

Moore to smitty: 141 yards 2 TDs

Clearly Moore gets the ball to Smith more often and leads him into the endzone. For a competitor like Smith being involved is very important.

If you actually read my post I didn't say he was faking nor would be miss a game if healthy. I simply said that if he was questionable and around 75% would he risk it if there was no reward with Clausen? I didn't think so and I said that if he was on the fence with his health and Moore was starting he would play because he knew he would probably get the ball and score (as evidenced by their 5 game TD streak).

Smith got hurt in week 4. Those sprains take 4-6 weeks to heal according to everyone who is an "expert" but he only misses week 5 and week 6 and looks to play in week 7. So he has healed in 3 weeks, or 75% of the minimum time.

Your turn to share some insight.

So you're simply speculating that you think Smith is just rushing back. Ok... thanks.

You have no evidence to support that and literally no way to prove it unless he says so.

I disagree. I do not think Smith is rushing back to Moore's aid or any happier for Moore to be back. I would say Smith is likely MORE motivated to win a game because it's the 49ers and he just came off a bye than anything. I THOUGHT that there was even talk about him coming back from the bye the week of the injury from someone.

Don't you remember the Smith quote about double trouble? Smith cares more about winning than he does about getting TDs. He wants the offense to do well. He wants to be part of it to do well, yes, but everything I have seen from Smith shows that he is a huge competitor and wants to win regardless of the way. I'm willing to bet we wouldn't have heard so much about how Smith hated Clausen if Clausen actually won us games.

So it boils down to this: In your opinion, Steve Smith is the kind of person that puts his personal numbers ahead of doing the most to help the team. I disagree.

And he probably isn't and probably didn't fake that injury. You are right there is no evidence and we should not assume so.

But on his motivation to come back sooner...I fully believe that if you have a Leader in which you believe, and who looks out for you, you would return the favor.

Take Delhomme and Smith. It's no secret these guys were friends. Smith would probably do a little more for Delhomme than any of these starting QB's just because there's something more invested there than just business. Respect and friendship.

And that's with any job. You're a lot more likely to want to get out of bed when you love your job than when you don't. And I can't see what Smitty had to love about his job with Clausen under center. Clausen made Smitty look worse than a couple of rookies. I mean come on.

You still haven't provided any reasons as to why you think I'm wrong besides the fact that you think Steve is a "team" guy which can be debated but using your logic, how does being hurt and only getting 33 yards help the team? Knowing Moore gets him into the endzone and puts up points helps the team as well.

If you don't think there is some correlation than you are ignoring it because you don't want to realize it.

I've shown you two concrete pieces of evidence that would lead someone to believe he would try and come back sooner if Moore was the QB. You have shown none that support that he wouldn't.

Do you know what was said in this "argument"? no. Do your stats prove that Steve Smith doesn't like to or want to play football with Jimmy Clausen? no. Has anyone heard Steve Smith say that he doesn't like or want to play with Jimmy Clausen? no. So yes, your stats are meaningless.

Smitty wants to win. He wants the team to do everything in their power to win games. But when the team is losing, and on top of that your star wide receiver isn't getting the ball, then I'm sorry to say, the team isn't doing everything they can do to win games.

Haha you can believe what you want but the rest of us in the real world know that when someone is screaming at someone else they are not happy with them. They also know that getting the ball more, getting more yards, and getting more touchdowns usually makes a receiver happier.

Also throw in the fact that there was a report this summer that these two didn't get along and it starts to add up.

It amazes me how much you people need to be explicitly told what is going on or you don't believe it. It's like you can't make observations and derive the truth. First you couldn't believe that Jimmy would get benched for Moore, then you couldn't believe that Smith would be back this week, now you can't believe that it has something to do with Moore being in there. I mean can you make any decisions or observations for yourself? What is your common sense telling you?

It's cool if you don't want to believe it but the stars are aligning for there to be some truth to this. If you are waiting for Smith to come out and say he doesn't like Jimmy or he came back because Matt was in you are going to need to wait until he is retired because he isn't that dumb.

yea that report with "unknown sources" right. QBs and WR get into shouting matches on the sidelines all the time. and they hash it out and keep going. It doesn't mean someone is going to refuse to play with, or fake an injury until they change the QB. This isn't new. My point is you can't pass something as a fact with having heard or seen it yourself. Its your opinion, and no one has to agree it. Just like mine.
