Seriously though, everyone is getting concussions left and right, more rules/penalties to protect the players... just what is going on?

Dude, it's not "more rules." It's the same rule being enforced differently.

While harsher fines and possibly suspensions for flagrant hits could be coming immediately, NFL executive vice president of football operations Ray Anderson clarified Tuesday that the league isn't considering changing existing rules.

"We need to get our players firmly in line with the current rules," Anderson said, appearing Tuesday morning on ESPN Radio. In particular, Anderson said the focus is on defenseless players.

"What we're trying to make sure our players understand is that you should know the rules," Anderson said. "The coaches know the rules, the players should know the rules. And so if you are in violations of the rules -- particularly one of those trying to protect against head, neck injuries -- we're going to hold you to a higher standard."

Anderson said there is no intent to change any rules. "We are just going to enforce the existing rules much more to the letter of the law so we can protect our players," he said.

someone suggested taking a player out of the game who injures a player. I support this. you injure a player with an illegal hit, you leave that game.

i think people assume players can't control how they hit but i disagree. that guy on rutgers got paralyzed with awful takling form. he was bent over 90 degrees with the tip of his helmet making first contact. you cannot get in this position unless you try. head up, it's simple. if you can only see grass, you're in the wrong position.

As a former safety and corner-back, it is impossible not to do what they are saying. Two of those hits were on the momentum of the receiver crossing the field. So is the safety, corner, or linebacker suppose to back peddle before they hit a crossing receiver? Yeah right!

I can see what you're saying on the Dunta Robinson hit, but the Merriweather hit and the hit against Cribbs appear to be blatant spearing. Please explain.

Its cause more QBs are leading there WRs into defenders. I mean yea the guy is defenseless but its only cause the QB caused him to be that way.

I mean QBs can do no wrong in this league while defenders become the whipping boy of every problem.

I say it should be a three strike rule. You get two but the 3rd one cost you 4 games. Lets face it sometimes you misjudge a hit and its helmet to helmet but if you do it more then two times a year your head hunting.
