Why everyone should be ok with the QB change

It's not a secret I am a fan of Clausen.

But the bottom line is he didn't play well enough to keep his job.

Lame duck Fox does not want a donut on his watch. (Yes, I do think Jerry Jones is crazy enough to hire him)

Moore is fresh and plays well when seasons are shot.

So I can certainly see why he would make the change regardless of my personal bias.

BUT, for all you Clausen fans, you are almost guaranteed to see him again this year.

If the team can get a few wins under it's belt, Clausen will likely come back once the team is mathmematically out of playoff contention.

I agree with others that the FO will want to evaluate his skills under less stressful circumstances before a new head coach arrives.

Of course, if Moore doesn't do well he is likely to come back sooner.

The only way you realistically do not see Clausen again this year is if Moore lights it up and turns this team into a playoff contender. Not likely but much stranger things have happened in the NFL before. Obviously it would be fine by me.

Till the O-line plays better neither QB will look good. Our running game is almost nonexistent and both QB's were regularly hammered. Moore, nor Clausen played well on top of it, but neither have the talent to overcome a shotty line. Last season the O-line played well and a good rushing attack gave Moore time to find receivers down field.

I think the green receivers have been a much bigger problem than the line.

They can't get separation for either quarterback. Maybe a better QB could do more with less, but at this point that's the story.

So the line only looks like it sucks. It turns out there are more guys in the box to block than there are lineman.

nah the line sucks.

Stewart sucks because he can't make something out of nothing. He can't move laterally like Williams can and he's suffering for it. They need to give him some room before he can be effective.

The entire right side of the line get's blown up every other play. I could just be having a selective memory but it seems like we motion recievers and ends to the right side on those frustratingly predictable run plays.

We're getting 1-2 yard runs on first down consistently.

They suck.

Good point.

And honestly that's what I was hoping to see from Jimmy. He looked like he had the capability of releasing the ball quicker and the poise/confidence to do so in the few drives he came in off the bench in the first 2 games. After actually seeing him play a full game, his quicker release, which now is questionable along with the fact that we found out he may have to fix his throwing motion all together, is not enough of a factor to make him play better than Moore with this offense because of all the other mistakes he makes along with the inexperience. He would have had to at least play as good as Moore in the other areas, plus have a quicker release, to give us better results and push the defenses back from our O-line. We also sign no sign of improved leadership or confidence over Matt Moore.

Neither one of these guys seem to have gained the confidence of this team but at least Matt had Steve Smith's confidence while Jimmy and him had 0 chemistry. And I will say this, which is just a matter of speculation on my part: I don't believe for one second ANYONE on that football team wanted to play for Jimmy over Matt. Internally, I believe the players were never going to trust or respect him enough for that which is why I have always said, his best chance for success IS riding the bench for a year. Not to mention he needs to mature and let time do its work. This was a much needed humbling experience for him. And it should only make him grow up a bit and realize he isn't the "star" anymore. Not at this level.

Its obvious fox wants to win...I know that pisses off the majority around here.

How dare fox wanting to go with a vet, and trying to win games. Doesn't he know this is a garbage season? Lol

Yea and playing musical QBs has always been the way to win game right?

Like it or not we are the Carolina Browns. They are fugging up both our QBs confidants right now and we are prob going be screwed next year because of this crap.

There is no doubting that the Panthers need to win a game and win it now,so we need to play the one that can actually lead the team to a touchdown.

At this particular time i feel (as coaches do) that Matt Moore deserves another chance to prove he is capable of doing the this.

Fox in the past (say Jake Delhomme) has always been slow to change the QB position even when they not performing.

Now that he seems to be willing to made changes quickly, let's see if this present plan works better than his old slow to change one.

As I've said in previous thread there is really no spinning the situation.

Matt played bad.

Jimmy played bad.

Matt is back.

If the Panthers win this weekend Matt will stay at quarterback for a while.

If Matt goes in and returns to his pick throwing ways he will be benched again.

It's really all about production.

Yes it is. But there is a big difference.

Matt played bad.

Jimmy is bad.

Matt played bad, but we know he can play better. Jimmy played bad, but we don't know that he can play better this year no matter how many starts he gets. If anything he's shown he's not ready and can't.

For Matt he can go back to being consistent as quickly as this Sunday. Can you say the same thing about Jimmy? Can you say Jimmy would come in this sunday, play great, and continue to play great consistently for the remainder of the season?

Not with those rookie shoes. Jimmy needs a minimum of a year on the bench and regular NFL practices to be ready as a starter. If anything it proved that even playing in an pro-style offense in college is no preparation for the real thing.

    • https://collegefootballnetwork.com/college-football-playoff-predictor Fun little predictor. You can pick every game for the rest of the season. Right now my 12 are: 1. Ohio St. (bye) 2. Miami (bye) 3. Georgia (bye) 4. Arizona St. (bye) 5. Oregon VS 12. BYU 6. Boise St. VS 11. SMU 7. Notre Dame VS 10. Texas 8. Penn St. VS 9. Indiana   That gives me: Oregon/OSU for the third time this year (Oregon) Miami lucking out once again VS Indiana SMU playing cinderella VS ASU Texas/Georgia one more time (Texas)   That gives me: SMU/Miami again (Miami) Oregon/Texas (Oregon)   Oregon then trashes Miami in the finals.
