Moore to start

I agree he needs to play well and win. Never been a doubt about those two things in the NFL. Players need to play well and win.

The only thing that confuses me is people were claiming that Moore wouldn't start because Fox is no longer making that decision since Clausen is "the Future" but now that Moore will start it's "Fox blindly throwing everything against the wall hoping something sticks, on a weekly basis." It can't be both ways. It was either wrong before or it's wrong now.

Also, I know this is not likely but Clausen isn't guaranteed to be here next year either. Everyone knows contracts in the NFL mean absolutely nothing. Just last year we paid a guy 12 million dollars not to play football so having 3 years left on a deal worth about 1.5 mil is chump change. Just thought I'd throw it out there that there is a real possibility that Moore is resigned, the new HC brings in his new guy(vet or rookie) and Clausen is traded to a more suitable offense (depending on what is brought in here). Crazier things have happened.

In my opinion, Panthers will bring in a HC who will want to give Clausen first crack at starting in '11, assuming there's a season. Why? I don't know, just a hunch. If not, I don't see Panthers trading JC because there's still a good chance he is our QB of the Future, if such a thing really exists. He's only played 3 games. I wouldn't trade that promise away yet. And you certainly don't cut a guy like that after his 1st season. So I'd say I'm as sure he'll be a Panther in '11 as we'll have JR as the owner..pretty sure...but not 100%...maybe 99.999%.

...he's played more this year than Matt Moore...how is 3 games not experience? If it isn't, how is Moore's garbage duty experience?

I'm not denying that it's experience. I'm just saying that the amount of ineptitude he had diplayed barely makes it worth calling it out as such. As I imaging that cutting off your own finger, while technically surgical, would not be something you would use to qualify you as a surgeon.

And Moore's Garbage Duty experience includes 6 Ws, so... yeah.

Well, if there is one thing I take from all this...Fox really wants Moore to make it as the starter for the Panthers! I guess so it makes his decision in the offseason look halfway smart.

I mean really? Matt gets to play the lowly Bucs, and TERRIBLE Giants team (until the last two weeks) while Jimmy had to play the best defenses / teams in the league, in the rain and in a dome...then they put Moore back in for the freakin 49ers? WOW

If Moore follows what he has done thus far this year against terrible teams we lose again!

Anyway, good luck Matt!

P.S. Fox, Please just run the ball in the redzone!

Right about now.. every team is capable of defeating us with ease. I doubt it really matters who we play. The only thing that has kept games close against us is teams shooting themselves in their own foot.

That's fair but to be honest everyone was that sure that Jimmy wouldn't be benched. Could you name a coach that would want to come here and be told who to start at QB?

Established coaches won't want to do that because they have their own idea of what a QB is.

Up and comers/ Hot Coordinators won't want to do that because they are banking their future on a guy that (as of now) hasn't shown much.

It really limits our choices and I don't know if the FO will do that. They don't have that much invested in Jimmy and there is no real reason to handicap our coaching search by those standards.

Dude...get a clue.

Moore was signed to a one-year contract in the off-season with plans for him to be THE guy. Right? Right. You can argue the lockout had to do with the one-year deal, which is fine by me. So why did we draft two QBs then? Exactly. They weren't sold on Moore. How will they get sold on Moore? He does an excellent job here in 2010.

He started out like ass and, in my opinion, JR forced Fox to put in Clausen (thinking more butts in the seats). So what did that give you? A rookie QB. They usually always suck. Guess what? Clausen sucked. But when you start a rookie, and don't have a vet to back him up, and don't have a better option to take you to the Playoffs (hello, 2010 Panthers!), you should keep putting your rookie out there to take his lumps like so many before him.

But now they're going back to Moore. And he can indeed earn a contract for 2011 and beyond...if he plays lights out. But if you take away the Vikings and Giants 2009 games, and look at the rest of his career...I just don't see "lights out" at all, and don't see him getting us to 8-8 this season...which is what, IMHO, it'll take to re-sign him.

All that logic talk? Yeah, you need to read my posts and understand I'm one of the most realistic posters here. I dislike both QBs. But I think it's much more logical to throw Clausen to the wolves to gain that rookie experience so we can decide what this kid actually is (now that the season is a bust) than to hope Moore can get us 3-5 wins and a worse draft pick.

That's all I needed to read to know what to think.

If you actually hope we torpedo this season so we can lock down a #1 pick rather than winning 3-5 games, then you sir, are a waste of time to argue with. You are the worst kind of fan, and a blight on our legions of loyal panthers fans who want nothing more than to see the team do well week in and week out. If you are so overwhelmed by logic that you're actually hoping for the Panthers to fail, then I suggest you take up watching chess, and avoid all sports that require a modicum of emotional investment.

I'm done.

A lot more likely the new coach brings in a veteran who knows his offense to start. Not many coaches wanting to start off right want to risk it on a rookie unless they have little choice in the matter. Clausen will be here though like Weinke was for years. Doesn't mean he will play though.

I agree with that BUT, I would have liked to see what Jimmy can do against a "soft" defense

You're right though, it really doesn't matter...the whole team sucks right know!
