why is Bill Cowher the answer to our problems?

For about 5 years straight the Steelers were losing OC/DC coordinators to other teams, even the Panthers got one (Capers) If some of those coordinators had stayed in place Cowher would have won more Superbowls. He was/is a consistent winner and that's why people want him.

i see this whole thing kinda like jimmy johnson. yeah he sure sounds enticing to have as a coach, but look at miami. he couldnt win there, now he is out.

lets look at the facts. this team lost 4 games all year. 2 other teams lost in their first playoff game this year and i am hearing none of the things i am hearing here.

The Steelers had the #1 defense, and also played the hardest schedule this year......

So that is no excuse, I don't give two shits who we played, the defense sucked.

Just means our team is some soft bitches. We need a tough mentality and tough coach.

We haven't been dominant since Del Rio's days. Pep has probably been quietly waiting for Turg to go so we could get a real DC and it never happened.

wrong.

the defense hasn't been absolutely dominant since 2004, after we weathered all the injuries and the ship righted.

What was different there? What player made the difference after losing Kris jenkins and Dan Morgan? What player was able to get the most out of Peppers and the makeshift players in the secondary? WHO WAS THIS MYSTERIOUS PLAYER THAT NO ONE ON HERE EVER MENTIONS BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE MEMORY OF AN ANT?

someday i will write a post about how the defense never recovered from losing him......someday

as opposed to non playoff teams atlanta, san diego, minnesota, and arizona in the first half?

At the point time they were not.

They made adjustments and improved.

Atlanta at the beginning of the year, not the same as at the end and we could not beat them as a result. The reality is, we were flat out lucky to beat the Chargers in that first game. The defense couldn't cover their mothers in the first game. Minnesota, we lost to, didn't we? Arizona, there is no doubt they are playing much better football now than at mid-season when we played them....they beat the Panthers to a pulp without one of their star receivers.

You tell me.

We also were not the same team rushing the first half of the season either. We made adjustments and grew together and became a bona fide running team.

fox got soft.

the chin gets the most out of his players. he pushes them and he gets respected for it.

fox is not the solution if he can't get his team to win consistently. cowher has shown that he can make that happen.

if fox can't make it happen next year, cowher can.

benefit of him is he is local now and wants to be here in the carolinas. there are very few that can dismiss the idea that he will be top of the list when/if fox leaves the panthers.

The team takes on the persona of the coach. Look at Wizenhunt. (another Steeler DC) He is fiery and emotional. And here they are in 43. Now look at Fox, boring (except on offense) and no emotion. Just like the team.

Well let's see, Miami and Atlanta lost in the first round, yet they had first year coaches. I don't see them getting to upset over that, why would they?

The Colts have Manning and a ring already, and recently, also their coach is(was) one of the classiest ever....whats to be upset about?

Minnesota is the only other team that really has any reason to gripe(aside from us).

i was referring to the giants and the titans. all of whom have just as much to gripe about. they were the 2 toughest teams all season, and laid eggs just like we did.

At the point time they were not.

no one was. it was the first half of the season.

Atlanta at the beginning of the year, not the same as at the end and we could not beat them as a result. The reality is, we were flat out lucky to beat them in the first game.

yeah we were really fortunate to eek out that 24-9 nail biter.

Minnesota, we lost to, didn't we?

yes, and they were playing exactly the same way they finished the year playing.

Arizona, there is no doubt they are playing much better football now than at mid-season when we played them

they were a tipped pass and a miracle catch by dwayne jarrett away from beating us then.

You tell me.

you're very thoroughly wrong.

We also were not the same team rushing the first half of the season either. We made adjustments and grew together and became a bona fide running team.

im not sure how this superficially correct point has anything to do with your original erroneous supposition that a "weak" early schedule was what led to their collapse.
