why are people so obsessed with retiring numbers when we haven't even gone 20 seasons yet

jealousy?

it's the same reason we complain about our fanbase being so small and the team getting so little recognition. same reason we complain about having so many jerseys of other teams in the BoA.

we just haven't been around long enough for us to have much of a history and we haven't done enough to warrant many people paying much attention to us. some of it stems from the owner. we want to be just like some other teams instead of creating our own legacy.

there isn't one player that has been on the team for more than a couple years who i would consider HoF material. a couple have been close but in the long run they will only be footnotes. some might have to do with their surroundings but oh well.

I don't think Smith will ever be a footnote.

What I said was that I thought that it was a little disrepectful for us to give away Moose number so quickly. You guys talk as if Moose is a bust. I say that Moose is a Hel*ofa player with outstanding character. No he was never our #1 receiver but he complemented the #1 so well that defenses had to account for him. Not to mention his contribution to the running game, one of the best blocking WR's in the game. Repect is what I'm saying, not that every number needs to be retired. The organization has to be built on something so that when we have done enough, long enough we will have our own history to look back at and like it or not... Moose is a big part of that history!

don't get me wrong. he's been a great player. i just see him as someone that would barely squeak into the HoF if he was ever nominated for it.

to panther fans he'll always be legendary. outside of here....not so much. if he does something to light it up and we miraculously get a decent offense that can move the ball and a QB that can get the ball to him and he can keep from getting hurt, he might have a chance. i just really don't see all that coming together anytime soon and time is running out. a ring would hep his case but i don't see that happening very soon either.

moose was great and is borderline as far retiring his jersey, number 89 most likely will be the next to be retired(even if he ends his career somewhere else)

I'd rather have a 87 out there then not having one, all through HS I wore 87 because Moose was my favorite player, besides I can't stand WR's that use 10-19
