Panther Football Nostradamus's

I am sure there have been several threads posted regarding this, but I wanted to kick my first official hazing request (thread) with a couple observations.

Going into this season, a large majority of Panther fans were backing Matt Moore 100%. I was included in this group. Based off of his performances in the 2009 season, why wouldn't we right? To refresh some of your memories, he went 4-1 and could have easily been 5-0 with better play-callers in place. Oh yeah, he was also one of the highest rated QB's (I think he was the highest rated actually, don't have my stats in front of me though) to close out the 2009 regular season.

Trust me, I am not a Matt Moore fan any longer and I was calling for his replacement along with everyone else. It needed to be done and what he had accomplished the year prior was all just a mirage. That stupid, goofy look he has on his face at all times is not however.

Now onto my first observation: Why does everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, act like they were predicting his poor performance from the beginning of time? I would bet 90% of you originally believed in the same pipe dream as me in the off season and now deny it. In Matt Moore we all saw something that was bigger than Matt Moore, it was hope for the future and a refreshing change that has rarely been seen under Fox's regime. I guess you could say Matt Moore is a lot like Barack Obama in that respect, the only difference being, I actually believed in Moore. Regardless, I see so many people basically stating in thread after thread that people who backed Moore were delusional and should have known this guy wasn't going to work out. Based on past performance, I would say we were more logical than anything. Also, to squash this argument from the start, two of the 2009 teams that we faced were legitimate playoff caliber teams (Vikings and Giants) that had a lot to play for and a lot to lose.

Now onto my last observation: Droves of fans are pointing out the O-Line's piss poor performance and just thrashing these guys. It isn't the O-Line folks, it is the played out and predictable John Fox brand of football that defensive coordinators no longer have to game plan against, and the O-Line is a direct casualty of that system. You know, the run, run, pass, punt; run, run, pass, punt; run, run, pass/interception type of offense we are all too used to. When you are five guys constantly having to take on 8-10 defenders every down, it isn't going to translate into great performances, regardless of who is on the line. Until we see a fundamental change in the direction of our offense, DC's will continue to game plan this way and our O-Line will continue to look like garbage.

In closing, I failed mention Clausen throughout this entire post. If you would like to know my thoughts on him, I say we try out Pike. Hopefully that answers your question. Goodnight all.

I agree I thought he would do better. I also said on numerous occasions that entering into the season with four QB's with less then a season of starts combined was a foolish idea (ditto on the DT situation). It wasn't like he was a sure thing (especially considering how Anderson had done only a few seasons prior under the same QB coach). Personally would have signed a vet (Bulger most likely) instead and drafted Tate instead of Clausen but in all honestly I don't think it would have made much difference.

The truth of the matter is no one could anticipate how poorly this oline would play thus making our ground game next to none existent. And our QB's have been abused or hurried all season. I believe it was a no win situation for whoever started at QB.

I don't think it's the last we've seen of Moore yet. I think he should get another chance before we can say " OK he sucks..".

The only way Matt Moore or Pike see snaps is if the coaching staff wants to protect Jimmy from getting killed.

I don't think Pike is the answer either. It was a statement concerning our current quarterback situation which I guess didn't come across clearly. Moore to Clausen to Pike. Not one upgrade in that equation. I am from the school of thought that a rookie QB should not start at all and have a few years to learn the team's scheme before taking off the training wheels. Clausen behind Moore, who had started less than half of a regular season at the time, was not your best starter/back-up scenario. Since both seem to have trouble seeing coverage downfield, maybe Pike, standing at 6'6", could do a better job. He is also pretty accurate with his throws. Clausen throws too low and too fast for anyone, especially backs and tight ends! Not to mention the guy has zero and I mean ZERO chemistry with Steve Smith. Pike may not do better, but he wouldn't do worse either. I was at the Bears game and Jimmy looked effing lost and scared. Worst offensive performance to date this season which means we're moving in the opposite direction of which we would like to.

Nostradamus's is plural in reference to all of the fans out there who originally pulled for Moore but now don't seem to remember doing so. Now they try to play it off like they were saying this guy was going to fail from the start. I guess it is an ego thing, who knows.

Like in the Bears game I guess? Jimmeh! looked like a scared little boy who would take off outside of the still forming pocket anytime he thought there was an inkling of pressure. 9 times out of 10, there wasn't and it was frustrating to watch.

Mark's dad fired him sure, but he is still a part of the ownership group. I would say he more or less afforded him a permanent vacation.

If Pickles keeps playing like he did in the Bears game, I think you may be right. I think we might see some type of Moore/Clausen tag team action with a little Edwards sprinkled in. Kind of like "Double Trouble", but I think they would pick up a nickname like "The Menedez Brothers". Killing the careers of their dad (Fox) and mom (Davidson) one botched snap/pass/interception at a time.

...my little tagline means i'm not surprised by any events that happen in this organization right now. Definitely not happy with the state of affairs. I've accepted the fact that we are not a very good team due to reconstruction, rebuilding or revamping, etc. The thought of going 0-16 or 1-15 does scare the hell out of me because of the rippling effect it could have, losing begets losing. I have to trust that Mr. Richardson knows what he is doing but he is playing with dynamite and risking the fairly respectable reputation this team has.
