eh I'm early twenties, when I was about that age we loved to ring and run houses. Occasionally we rolled houses but it was usually just girls we liked or something similar. The problem with teenagers is, they want to push everything to the limit. Thankfully for us our neighbors hated when we ring and ran, so much so that they would chase us. I say thankfully because we never saw the need to step it up other than throwing water balloons at houses. I can't say whether or not we would have resulted to worse things had we not received any reaction from our neighbors.

In my opinion you did exactly the right thing. The worst thing you could do is result to violence or anything of this nature. I'm really sorry about your basketball goal though.

Unfortunately if Mike is being such a dickhead the only way I see this getting resolved is the kids just naturally grow out of it (we did once we started drinking underage haha) or you are going to have to involve the law. I hate to say it but I think that's what it has come to.

I doubt the kids will try anything again, but if they do I would call the cops immediately.

I had a similar experience with the kids in my 'hood. I'm also in a similar boat age wise and stuff. I also teach teenagers so I've got that as well.

So here's what I did, we have an HOA, so I got them involved. Then I started being the weird stalker guy and photographing and video taping them doing stupid stuff. I called the cops of late night parties. At first, I tried to confront the family in a nice, cooperative way. They were trash and basically told me to go to hell. So I took my collected stuff, took it to the police and the HOA. Magically, I have no more problems! No more cigarette butts in my yard, dog crap, loud parties, or kids walking on my grass (holy crap I'm old!).

They don't acknowledge me or my wife any more. They keep quiet and keep their dog crap off my lawn! Do I care they don't like me? Heck no!

This is kind of the route that I have been gravitating towards. For instance, on Friday night, I sat and watched through the window at big group of kids sitting on my lawn, throwing rocks, and breaking limbs off (my neighbor Mike's) trees.

I thought about breaking out the old video camera and getting the crazy behavior on tape, and start documenting this type of behavior.

Luckily, there is an old senile guy on the Board of Directors HOA, that is a nut when it comes to rowdy kids. So I will put in a call to him!

Security system...video them...keep a weeks worth of video because you might not see damage for a couple of days.

If they're throwing parties...call the law at 11:01pm every time claiming loud noise.

If they're congregating on your yard...give them one warning and videotape it. If they are threatening in response in anyway. Call the police. Tell them you've given them one warning and they are refusing to leave.

People who wield knives instead of guns are usually far crazier. A chainsaw or something like that would work as well.
