How would you turn this thing around?

First off, assume Fox leaving is a given. What would be the first 3-5 steps you would take to raise the Titanic?

1. “Get a young, hungry coach.”

YES, not in total agreement with the lack of experience, but they would need the hunger..

2. “Keep current college scouting depart; change pro scouting department.”

YES, including keeping Hurney.

3. “Build around Beason on defense and Clausen and DWill on offense.”

SORT OF. Beason & DeWill, but ‘why in freaking world would you say build around Clausen?!!!!’ He has not shown anything? Why didn’t we build around Weinke then? No way I agree with this. Luckily by next year we should see growth or lack thereof in Clausen, so he may end up showing ‘promise’…not yet though.

4. "When you hire the new coach, make sure fans see the new direction you are taking."

I AGREE. Mostly with letting fans know the direction the team is going I think JR knows, but cannot ‘show his hand’. He is smart & loves this team. Once the CBA is worked out we will all go…’oh, that’s why he did that’….I think!

5. "Announce that you are changing the stadium policy."

YES.

Mickeye why NT instead of UT?

I picked UT because they are typically more instrumental in the pass rush which is where the biggest weakness of our defense lies imo. I'm not worried about the run game. We just need to get pressure on the third and longs.

1-hire Brian Scottenheimer as HC and let him be the OC also.

2-Trade Travelle Wharton to someone who needs a guard for a backup guard or tackle and a 3rd round pick.

3-re-sign Kalil, and give beason a big contract.

4-have an even more epic training camp/preseason QB battle between Armanti and Clausen...AE wins...

5-trade Matt Moore and a 3rd round pick to Jacksonville for a 2nd round pick.

6-trade DWill for a mid 1st rd pick, then trade it and 2012's 1st rd pick for a top 5 pick to go along with another top 5 pick.

7-Draft AJ Green with our 1st pick. Draft Patrick Peterson with our 2nd pick.

yep...

-Its a given we're getting a new coach, hopefully an offensive minded & my choice is Mike Heimerdinger (as of now) with Russ Grimm & Harbaugh a close second

-Clear the WR group except for Smith, Armanti, & Gettis

-Trade Smith for a late 2nd-mid 3rd or a might even say a solid cornerback (player to player trade)

-Since there are really no decent veteran backup QBs anymore, get another young one in the draft / also...maybe go out and find Thigpen/Croyle/Brohm/Daniel

-Shake up the offensive line somehow

-We're not going to make trade after trade so I would probably stop at 2, Smitty & a lineman on either side (DT & RG preference)

-Sign an old, proven DC so the new HC can focus heavily on a new potent offense

-Draft must: 2 first rounders--Trade down and use extra 2nd & 3rd picks...get a WR that can immediately start, nab a ballin' QB (lets try to get this offense to explode)

-And seriously consider clearing both King & Rosario (I think they may be not as good as some think)

-Re-sign D-Will, be open to offers for Stewart instead

-I dunno

The Chin has turned down more money to coach elsewhere than our owner would pay him

There was a reason why he has turned down the money and the job, his wife. Stop acting like he turned down money. And stop saying JR won't pay him. JR gave Fox a $25million contract 5 years ago. That was about the rate then, whos to say he won't stay with rise in pay and pay more his time? Just because this year has made most believe he is cheap. He isn't and will pay to be a winner again. Silly reason. First it was Cowher took 15 years to win the Superbowl and now the reason is JR is cheap. Y'all just need to stop with the excuses and just say you don't like Cowher.

Back to the OP...Logo in the center of the field! Instant wins babby!!

1. Trade Down next years 1st round draft pick. Make up for the fact you don't have a second rounder and don't be stupid and draft in the first two picks and get another QB. Get some more draft picks and invest in them.

2. In the draft blow up your o-line. Its obvious they are terrible/aging/can't stay healthy except for Kalil. Draft a Guard or a Tackle...again and make sure you get it right.

3. The defensive line has been eh iffy lately make invest the 2nd or 3rd round pick on DT or DE and admit that you gave to much up for Brown and you can live with him being in the rotation.

4.Something needs to change with coaching staff on the offensive side of the ball. You can make the excuse all day that "we got the right game plan but we can't execute it correctly". Coaching is obviously the issue if the O-line can't get make a block or game plan differently. Our O-Line Coach has been great except for the past year, maybe give him a pass but the offensive side of the coaching staff needs to get re-vamped except for Skipper. It will put some fire under people's ass.

Get rid of Hurney and the coaching staff.

Sign a young GM, let him handle the coaching staff.

Trade away a few aging veterans for mid/high draft picks (Steve Smith, Chris Gamble at least)

Rebuild OLine and WR corps through draft and one or 2 smaller FA signings in first year. This would help Clausen develop and would help running game start again.

Rebuild D in second year.

After that, add players when appropriate.

1. Agree with those saying we need an offensive minded coach. We have never had much of an offense. Young versus old is irrelevant as long as they are effective.

2. We need a few defensive line playmakers, they might be on the team already or we might need to get a few. Scheme and coaching could turn the current group into an effective group.

3.Bring in a veteran quarterback or two. Bring in someone who can run an effective offfense and read defenses and can show Clausen how to do it.

4. Install an aggressive defense that blitzes and attacks the ball instead of bends until they break.

5. If you want to change the stadium environment, try winning consistently. Nothing pumps up the stadium like winning. Family friendly sections versus rowdy ones won't happen as long as all the seats are PSLs and already assigned. Who is going to move??

6. Bring in some free agents like a real number 1 receiver since Smith wants to abdicate the role.

maybe not steve. mid to late 3rd then. he has value to a team superbowl ready. he's still a stud next couple of years.

disagree on dewill. he was a first round pick and has proven himself as first round value. he's just what green bay or new england needs to put them in the superbowl. their first round pick on a running back next year isn't as good as dewill is right now. he has first round value.

Smith is worth a 3rd at best.

D Will is not worth even close to a 1st, and probably wouldn't even draw a high 2nd. Is he great, yes, but he is in the last year of his deal, is getting older, and has never carried the load. I love him, but he isn't worth a 1st, only dumb FO's give up next years firsts.

Lets not even go into the fact that NE and GB have very good coaches and FO's, and they are in no way going to mortgage their future to succede this year, neither of those coaches/FO's are on the hotseat.

 @ you guys who want to trade the whole offense.

A coach with swagger and a proven system. I know who I want to bring in, somebody who knows the road to the SB, I'd rather have someone like that than someone trying to figure it out.

We have a good core group. I'd get some vet help on the Oline. A good quality starter in place of #73 and a starter quality backup (pro scouting) for Otah and a bruiser FB.

I'd look at Thomas the next couple games to see if he can be a #2, if not we'd get a vet. I don't think going wholesale young is the formula for winning championships you need veterans.
