FO says not entertaining D-Will, but...

top dawg

with a name like number28 I'm going to have to believe your biased as well. Pointless. Why don't we compare careers instead of just last year?

You can't really. By long term value as in I am looking at who is sitting behind him ready to start. If we sign Stewy and trade Dwill. Sutton or Goodson would probably go as well and I'd like to keep both of them. which probably won't happen anyway.

This is all based on speculation and mostly personal opinion (now mentioned for the third time) so your getting your panties in a wad over nothing.

nice edit...and beautiful backtracking.

To those who think we will get "value" for either one of our backs are greatly uninformed. A desperate team MIGHT give us a second round pick, but more than likely would be like a 3 and 4 or 5. Running backs have some of the lowest trade value of any of the positions.

Second and third round picks are all valuable, and so are forth rounders esp if you get multiple ones.

"value" in quotations is meant to indicate, I think anyway, equal value. Aka, how much do you think D-Will is worth to the team? I would say a high first rounder. That isn't happening. Hence the "'s. Obviously, picks in any round can be valuable, but would you really trade D-Will for a 3rd and 2 4ths or something? Ick. =|

Here's reality staring you inthe face.

Trade away DWill.

Stewart due to nagging injury problems cannot perform week to week.

Now Sutton is your starting running back. From 28 and 34 to a scrub 3rd option in the backfield.

Trade Jonathon Stewart, he should easily pull the top 13 pick we spent on him, otherwise Marty Hurney needs to be shown the door.

Irregardless of cost, please Carolina management, sign Deangelo Williams long term.

Stewart has never missed a game.

Williams has missed a handful of games.

We also have Goodson who I think would compliment Stewart well.

The thing that stinks about having so much talent at RB.....is your talent is sitting on the sidelines.

i think it's valid to think that you haven't paid much attention to currrent events and have yet to be brought up to speed.

stewart has not missed a regular season practice this season, nor has he been listed on an injury report.

funny how no one notices that williams has missed more practice, been listed on the injury report, and missed almost as much of the past offseason as stewart.

Hey, I'm glad Stewart hasn't been out this year. Of course he's only averaging 7 carries a game. Things change when the workload changes, that would be my fear.

His history and the potential of Stew being the solo go to back scares the crap out of me though given his past.

From earlier this year:

Shortly after combining with Williams to become the first set of teammates since the 1970 merger to each rush for over 1,100 yards, Stewart had surgery on the area between his Achilles' tendon and heel. He said some bone spurs were removed and the doctor "cleaned it up, did some stuff, tightening and whatever."

Stewart missed all offseason workouts — he hasn't participated in one minicamp practice or organized team activity workout in three years — and is now sitting again.

from the same link you're quoting...which sets the real tone of the article, how he's been able to perform despite injuries and not practicing.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Jonathan Stewart has put together a gaudy resume in his two years in the NFL. He set Carolina's rookie rushing record, led the Panthers in rushing last season and has played in all 33 regular-season and playoff games.

Yet this may be the most remarkable part of it all: He's hardly practiced in nearly three years.

"Stew's got it down to a science," tight end Jeff King said, smiling. "He's outsmarting us all."

Despite practicing once or twice a week at the most, Stewart recovered from a slow start and had big games after Williams went out with an ankle injury. Stewart rushed for a franchise-record 206 yards in a win at the New York Giants, and finished with 1,133 yards despite being in constant pain.

"There was one play I remember, he broke like 40 yards, guys were still trying to tackle him, and he was moaning and yelling at the bottom of the huddle," center Ryan Kalil said. "And he got back in and we ran another play. That's a tough guy. I'm glad he's on my team."

williams has never been a full-time workhorse. he gets more touches than stewart, but still averages less than 20 attempts a game for his career...and he still misses games and practices due to injuries.

stewart's foot would have to fall off for him not to be able to play...even then, he'd probably carry it in one hand and the ball in the other.

D. Williams is NOT worth a first round pick.

Love the guy, but no team is going to give up a 1st round pick and the new contract he'll demand. Stop being such homers.

I don't think we should get rid of him at all. BUT...if they can get a quality starter in return, then I can see the team doing it.

Our run game won't be the same. Then again it has sucked this season anyways.

J. Stewart isn't injury prone. He doesn't practice much, but he has missed less time than d. Willians.

Stewart is also not running as well right now due to a lack of practice/consistent playing time.

Goodson has ability, but proven enough to be a starter? Not even close.

Resign Hayden and Landri as BACKUPS. Dwill is worth a first round pick. A pick we could use to either draft a RB, DT, WR or CB. We have 4 starting RB quality RB's. That is a luxury. Goodson and Sutton would start for many teams in the NFL.

your joking right?

stewart's practicing, he's just not getting the touches. he's not the type of back you can sprinkle into an offense and expect good consistent results.

he's on pace to touch the ball less than he ever has. thru the first 5 games of each season...

2010 - 36 attempts 119 yards 3.3 ypc 1 td

2009 - 50 attempts 248 yards 4.9 ypc 2 tds

2008 - 65 attempts 272 yards 4.2 ypc 4 tds

something else that i'm curious about, he's always practiced with the second string offense unless williams was out.

i've always thought that made no sense.

Actually DWill is a tremendous workhorse, Fox just hasn't utilized DWill to anywhere near his ability.

Ck the college career:

College career

Williams holds the NCAA records for most career all-purpose yards (7,573) and 100-yard rushing games (34). He also ranks fourth on the all-time NCAA rushing list with 6,026 yards, trailing only Ron Dayne, Ricky Williams, and Tony Dorsett. Williams was on the 2004 Pro Football Weekly All-America Team.

In his final collegiate game, the 2005 Motor City Bowl, Williams helped Memphis defeat the Akron Zips 38-31 by running for a Bowl record 238 yards and scoring 3 touchdowns. His performance made him the top ground-gainer in college football in 2005. He was also an All-America selection by the AFCA-Coaches's and the Walter Camp Foundation.

Williams was a finalist for the 2005 Doak Walker Award, which was awarded to Reggie Bush. He came in seventh overall in the Heisman Trophy voting. In 2005, he was named the inaugural winner of the ARA Sportsmanship Award, presented by the Awards and Recognition Association to the Division I football player who best exhibits sportsmanship both on and off the field

Anyway, dumb arguement, with Fox in charge, it is what it is.

Fiz just got pwned.

Actually, he didn't. Irregardless is a colloquialism that was so commonly used incorrectly that the English language modified itself to include it.... out of sheer stupidity. There are several other sources than the one posted that will tell you that. It would be just the same if "ya'll", or "who dat", became an accepted form of speech. It may "technically" be a word, but it's still technically stupid.

And it's good that the Panthers aren't entertaining Williams, because they're not entertaining me either.

Probably because Fox knows he would miss more games with more carries.

And he missed games in college, too, though he was still a great player.
