FO says not entertaining D-Will, but...

top dawg

Recommended Posts

Here's reality staring you inthe face.

Trade away DWill.

Stewart due to nagging injury problems cannot perform week to week.

Now Sutton is your starting running back. From 28 and 34 to a scrub 3rd option in the backfield.

Trade Jonathon Stewart, he should easily pull the top 13 pick we spent on him, otherwise Marty Hurney needs to be shown the door.

Irregardless of cost, please Carolina management, sign Deangelo Williams long term.

what makes you think that??

No one knows why he is getting less carries this year..But injury has never stoped him.

1) My main thing is that perhaps our FO shouldn't be so hasty....I love D-Will...But, looking at the big picture, J-Stew is waiting in the wings, and Goodson has proven to be a capable back-up/change of pace back (and runs with a lot of conviction). Even Sutton is not a slouch.

2) I was just wondering whether or not anyone believes that the Packers could be induced to part with Clay Matthews III...and look at this from a purely business perspective?

Point #2 first: No way would they part with him...out of question.

Point #1: Remember when we had this same issue with DL depth years back? Pep, Rucker, Jenkins, etc. There were good backups (1 being Gary Gibson who just signed a big contract with the Titans). A strong belief was since we had so many quality backsups that kept coming in, that getting rid of any of the top 3 wouldn't be a big hit to the team. Jenkins left, Rucker retired, etc. & now we have a horrific DL. I understand your reasoning, but feel that if we didn't have D-Will that a situation similar would probably occur. Stewart has not shown the ability to stay healthy (ever). It was a knock on him coming out of college as well.

I'm just saying that sometimes letting players go has an exponential effect on the other players seeing that the team is not building, but instead saving/planning (that usu. comes across as 'not with them').

Williams backed up Foster for a while, this is basically his third year as starting running back. He's got alot left in the tank. LT is still getting it done, R.Williams, Fred Taylor is still pretty effective. So that isn't true for every running back.

I don't know if i would use Ricky and Taylor as examples. They are not all that effective. Deangelo has tons of value and also deserves a new contract. The problem being with Sutton and Goodson waiting in the wings is resigning D-Will a luxury and not a need? I say he is a luxury. Stewart is injury prone but if we used a three headed attack to distribute carries he could last. Like i said in a previous post, it is a all in gamble. Trading Smitty and Dwill is crazy but if we are truly rebooting the franchise it makes sense. We are rebooting, has anyone seen the list of players whose contracts expire after this year.

QB Matt Moore , RB DeAngelo Williams, TE Jeff King, TE Dante Rosario, WR Charly Martin, C Ryan Kalil, G C.J. Davis (injured reserve), DE Charles Johnson, DT Nick Hayden, DT Louis Leonard, DT Ed Johnson, DT Derek Landri, LB Thomas Davis (reserve, physically unable to perform), LB James Anderson, LB Jamar Williams, LB Jordan Senn, LB Nic Harris, CB Richard Marshall, S Marcus Hudson, S Aaron Francisco (IR), K Todd Carter, LS J.J. Jansen. Resign BOLD.

I disagree with you to some extent. I would argue that it is a lot harder to build a strong LB unit than it is replacing the top RB. If you look around the league, you can find many quality running backs, with virtually every team having 1 or 2. But to get a top tier LB is much more rare.

The Giants were great for many years because of Lawrence Taylor, the Bears had Singletary, etc., the Steelers had household names as well from the LB corps. Those teams won championships. You build championships on strong defenses. Losing a top-tier rb is hard, but having one is not essential for winning.

You misunderstood. I was saying there was 'no way' GB would let Matthews leave. You explained there reasons why I would say that. :)

Has Stewart ever missed a regular season game due to injuries?

Stewart doesn't participate in training camps and rarely ever practices during the week during regular season due to various toe/foot ailments. I think it's valid to think given a load of 25 touches a week Stewart wouldn't last long. My opinion.

first of all, no one in their right mind, especially Ted thompson of green bay, is going to give the panthers a first for Stewart.

Secondly, irregardless ain't no motherfuging word read a book nigga

Sign Dwill, trade stewy.

Then you have Dwill with Goodson and Sutton backing him up for insurance. I think Dwill is special add that to the fact he has been splitting carries in his career I think he has a lot left to prove. He is special in a Thomlinson way. Chargers thought he was old enough to trade, look at him now, still a stud and a feared weapon. I like Stewy and if it weren't for his inability to stay healthy I would say keep him.
