FO says not entertaining D-Will, but...

FOs say a lot of things, so I am not going to take everything our FO says with a grain of salt. D-Will is at the point where we can still get "top dollar" for him, but, he is fast moving towards the point where most running backs depreciate in value (even if it's just perception, and not reality). That being said, there have already been two bloggers sirring up trade talk---saying that he would be a good pick-up---and it has already been confirmed that two teams did contact the Panthers regarding D-Will's availability. I suspect that one of them was the Packers, and coincidentally one of the blogs was discussing the Green Bay making a move for him.

My main thing is that perhaps our FO shouldn't be so hasty. Don't get me wrong, I love D-Will like the rest of us. His is one of two brand new jersey's I bought over the summer. But, looking at the big picture, J-Stew is waiting in the wings, and Goodson has proven to be a capable back-up/change of pace back (and runs with a lot of conviction). Even Sutton is not a slouch. I was just wondering whether or not anyone believes that the Packers could be induced to part with Clay Matthews III (picks, and/or others [e.g., James Jones]) in some sort of package deal if the FO was willing to offer up D-Will.

Hypothetically, would this be a good move for the long term?

Like I said, I love the guy. D-Will is one of the more exciting backs in the league, but is it time to stop just shutting people down out of hand, and look at this from a purely business perspective?

Trade away DWill.

Stewart due to nagging injury problems cannot perform week to week.

Now Sutton is your starting running back. From 28 and 34 to a scrub 3rd option in the backfield.

Trade Jonathon Stewart, he should easily pull the top 13 pick we spent on him, otherwise Marty Hurney needs to be shown the door.

Irregardless of cost, please Carolina management, sign Deangelo Williams long term.

We need either a run game or a pass game. Trade D-will and we really have nothing. QB's not good enough to make poo happen like Brady did when he had nothing. Wideouts arent polished enough to make up for QB's incompetence. We should play Sherrod Martin both ways (not really, just a crazy idea)

That is just baseless hate directed at Hurney. No way that a runningback in this league can command that high a draft pick after 3 injury filled years in the league. Currently I think you could get a 2nd for him, but I reckon a lot of teams will look at his inability to get on the field this year and try to hard ball us.

Williams backed up Foster for a while, this is basically his third year as starting running back. He's got alot left in the tank. LT is still getting it done, R.Williams, Fred Taylor is still pretty effective. So that isn't true for every running back.
