Potential Head Coaches

Mr. Scot

If Norv is out, I think Rivera will get the job, if not, I could see him leaving. I can't imagine him being to happy about getting passed over for yet another HC job, if he doesn't get it in San Diego and is offered one elsewhere.

Norv is going nowhere.

Ron may not be getting any offers after the Chargers just got stomped to the tune of 251 rushing yards in a "must win" game.

I personally like Ron, and love the fact that he knows the 34 and 43 D, but I would still like to see a O minded coach.

And if anyone talks about Grimm or Zimmer any more I am going to lose my poo.

Unfortunately I don't see Rivera making the lateral shift, someone is going to want him as a HC and I don't think it will be here.

I do if the SD staff is fired and nobody hires him as a head coach. He and Harbaugh were teammates in Chicago.

I don't really see the SD staff being fired, but you never know with AJ Smith.

You know, I was just thinking about Russ Grimm and Mike Zimmer...

(couldn't resist) :D

Word from Jon Gruden's son that he's targeting San Francisco or Cleveland, but not till 2012 (link)

Cleveland makes sense, given who's in charge there (similar philosophies).

Pretty sure Gruden didn't want that info out though. Maybe his son is getting revenge for being named "Deuce" :sosp:

If I were Mr. Irsay, I would be on the phone with Gruden right now, especially if my Colts miss the playoffs for the first time since the Civil War.

I remember a thread where someone was talking about where Cowher would be going, and I said Denver. I still think they're a darkhorse for him.

Told you guys McDaniels was going to get fired. Just didn't think it would be during the season, but hes going to be a really good OC candidate. hope we can grab him

I'd be down with that.

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
