Potential Head Coaches

Mr. Scot

Not sure I buy that logic.

Even at an inflated price, Harbaugh will still cost less than a Cowher or a Gruden. And given that he's thinking about his legacy. I believe that once the labor thing is settled, Richardson will have no reservations about loosening the purse strings to get the right man for the job.

(Mr. Scot) I never got your real take on Russ Grimm coaching the Panthers Next year. Do you feel like he would be a good Fit an not just because he is from the steelers. Who would be his Assistants if he were to get the Job. More then likely he will run a 3-4 defense. Who would be his defensive coordinator, an offensive coordinator?

another issue i have heard brought up is that 49ers might be a bit gun shy about drafting another QB #1 overall after the alex smith deal. before that the only other QB they had drafted early was jim druckenmiller in '97 (#26 in the 1st). they might want to avoid drafting another QB early since it hasn't really panned out for them.

Gantt just said..from what he is hearing the Harbaugh and Luck combo with the 49ers is gaining steam..He said if the Panthers get the #1 pick and the 49ers get the 2nd or 3rd that Hurney should look into trading the pick for a kings ransom..He also said Luck could pull a Eli Manning.

their fans speculate, too.

Which is all this is. Good that the worry about six months from now has earned "trade value" potential already.

true. if he does well, he keeps the job. if he doesn't do well, why would we want him?

I can think of another reason why you guys wouldn't want Leslie Frazier

the funny thing is, their fans are speculating when their team still has a chance at the division. Not that I blame them considering how terribly they started, but they have come on pretty strong.

That being said, I hope they do keep the division so they're out of the running. Cincy is too far gone to keep their coach probably, but I want as many teams to keep theirs as possible :P

Lewis is in the same contract situation as Fox.

They don't have to fire him, just not extend him.

First off I really do like John Fox and think he is much better then what you guys give him credit for, but with that said I do believe it is time to move on and in all reality he will be fired at seasons end.

My number one choice is Jim Harbaugh. He is young and has done wonders with that Stanford team out west. His brother is an excellent coach and I believe he would be able to duplicate. He is firey and energetic and would be a nice change from George Seifert and John Fox.

Harbaugh is my clear cut and number one choice but I feel that JR will somehow blow it. After that if Leslie Frazier does not hold on to the Vikings job, then him and Ron Rivera would be my next two choices. Bothe defensive minded coaches who deserve a shot at a head coaching position. I have been high on Ron Rivera for a while and I know he has been interviewed several times, but it is a mystery to me why he has never been hired. Right now he is coaching the number one defense in football and I believe would be a great addition to our defense.

If we strike out on all three I then want JR to be bold and go after a high energy guy who can relate with the fans, a guy who will put a spark back in this franchise. I love Rex Ryan and his personality and what he has done for the New York Jets. My next two choices would be his brother Rob Ryan or his OC Brian Schottenheimer. They are both personalities who could really motivate both this team and fan base. They would also be very entertaining to watch.

With all that said I truly believe it is going to come down to Russ Grimm and Perry Fewell, two coaches who don't inetrest me in the least.

    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
