Potential Head Coaches

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Ya I googled, thanks tho.

Didn't realize he interviewed for the JETS job.

He also got a contract extension into 2014...

Doubt it's ironclad.

Harbaugh as head coach, his old teammate Rivera at DC, protege' Andrew Luck as the quarterback of the future with Geep Chryst as his QB coach, Brian Baker retained to coach DL...

If we got all that, I'd be pretty stoked for next September.

Of course, the fact that we've speculated on it now probably means none of it'll happen crying.gif

His name was actually "Beathard"?
yep. they called him sufer bob, actually. dude looks like john denver and is still surfing every day even though he's in his 70s.

lots of people consider him the best GM ever and if it wasn't for the ryan leaf fiasco, it would probably be the consensus.

miami owes their superbowl rings to him for getting them the team they had and the same goes for joe gibbs and his rings with the redskins and players that beathard got for him.

he was great at scouting talent (except for leaf) and was great in the draft (except for leaf).

it's really unfortunate that he has that asterisk beside his name now. if only he'd retired instead of going to san diego.

Ah but then he wouldn't have signed Harbaugh, and maybe we wouldn't have either.

That connection could possibly help get the coach you want in place.

I hate to say it, but I'm getting a strong sense that both Harbaugh and Luck will decide to stay at Stanford another year rather than jump to the NFL. They are really close to competing for a National Championship, and I think both will stick around to try and win the title. Add on to that the labor uncertainty in the NFL (and possibility of no football in 2011), and this is probably not the most enticing year for them to make the move. The biggest risks are a team collapse that could hurt Harbaugh's status and Luck taking a Jake Locker type fall (assuming he falls to the mid-late first, where many are now projecting him). But if they both return, I just don't see either happening.

Mr. Scot, maybe our ideal two candidates end up being Grimm and Harbaugh but do you really think we'll be able to pick between them? What about other clubs?

I hope the CBA is done before either of them have to worry about it.

that being said, a certain someone claims to have inside info into it and says Harbaugh has already told people he's leaving for the NFL. There's a thread on it a bit down the page. Believe it (or not) if you wish!

Move this thread if you want...

Not saying we have our pick, mind you, but I think we have as good a shot as anyone else.

If we have the #1 pick, the idea that he'd get to continue coaching Andrew Luck could conceivably help lure Harbaugh.

Add in that, outside of this board, Jerry Richardson is a pretty highly respected owner. Perhaps he and Harbaugh could swap stories about their respective tenures with the Colts.

wait, so Seifert isn't really 100% pure evil and the devil's spawn like everybody has made him out to be since 2002?

There was a bit of a nod in his direction in 2003 by the sportswriters, that it was his team that made it to the Superbowl, with a few exceptions.

And fwiw, I think the next coach will be Brian Schottenheimer (assuming we can't pull in Harbaugh, who I believe we will target). He fits the profile of young up and coming coordinator the beat writers keep talking about. He's also a hot name right now, is doing a good job with a young QB in Sanchez, is part of a successful team this year, and comes from very highly regarded stock. Also, I truly believe that JR has seen enough of the defensive oriented coaches that cannot bring us two consecutive winning seasons that he'll want to go in a completely different direction in hopes that it will provide better results.

And I really, really do not think Grimm will be an option. First of all, he is not the type of sexy pick that gets fans excited, and make no mistake, JR needs something that will reignite the fans enthusiasm. He's also had inconsisent success in AZ. And really, he's done nothing to warrant the job. The biggest things he has going for him is name recognition from his playing days, and the hype he got for the consideration for the Pittsburgh job when Cower left. Bottom line, I just do not see him as a viable candidate.
