Potential Head Coaches

he's counting the USFL, I guess.

I dunno. If you want to discount what the guy's capable of, because he coaches in college right now, great.

I am not discounting him. Just saying that winning at Stanford does not mean he will win in the NFL. He is less likely to succeed than a coach with more NFL experience, and that more often than not, a coach that moves directly from college hc to NFL HC fails. And usually fails fairly quickly. There are exceptions of course, only two that I can think of, but they do exist. There have been a lot more failures than successes. Of the coaches that have won superbowls, all but two did time as a assistant coach on some NFL team. The reason this is true is that (as this year has proven for the Panthers) experience actually means something.

Fwiw, I got to watch Stanford last year live. They were beat by a team that had less talent than they did, and went most of the second half without scoring. They had more talent, but the other team had better coaching.

Cowher's "legend" has grown bigger than his chin the longer that he has been out of coaching. The NFL has changed a lot since he has been out. It is more of a QB driven, passing league than it has ever been. The players are also different. They demand respect more nowadays. Is Cowher going to be able to change his brash style to be able to motivate today's players?

IMO, Harbaugh would be the better choice.

Harbaugh would be a Great choice been Honest, he is not in the NFL that point is plain an clear but to not feel like he isnt a good enough coach to Qualify for the Job is Crazy. I would like to see him as our coach next year, but am im sure it will happen I really dont know. I think what has to happen for harbaugh to come to the League is Rich Rodriguez has to keep the job at Michigan, Also Andrew Luck has to come to the league. Only one of them look possible an thats if Luck comes to the league an more then likely i think he will.

But if the Michigan job opens up like i think it will,I think he would stay in the NCAA. But there is always that chance but i think more then likely he will stay in the NCAA. An you have to also consider how he feels about Standford also, so you have to think about Stanford an Michigan.

Now i know some of you feel like Big name coaches will be an better option because they even won the super Bowl or just have an lot of expierence. For the panthers Organization I think it will be a process of who ever has the best chance to rebuild the team an to be able to make Jimmy Clausen a Good QB. An thats either Brian Billick or Bill cowher if you looking at big name coaches.

The reason why i name these two an not Gruden is because i know gruden is a good Coach. But its his personality people in Tampa hated him an it lead up to him been fired. He also didnt have a stable QB also. I dont think Gruden will get a chance, thats just my opinion.

I been thinking for a while about who might get a chance an it seems more like it will be Russ Grimm an Brian Schottenheimer. Russ Grimm was an offensive lineman Just like Jeff Davidson an you know what they like to do, an that is run the ball i just dont feel the offense will be even better with hm as the coach. He just seem more like the type of coach that we have Now, an i think its time for a Small change. Brian Schottenheimer i believe is really Over hyped seriously his jets Offense is 20 in the league in passing an they are 4 in Running. like I said his offense isnt all that great.

There are other coaches to think about also maybe somebody like Bill O'brein he is the QB coach an Offensive Coordinator of the Patriots he has his hand in the Play calling an his finger prints all over the Offense. Maybe Curtis Johnson the WR coach from the saints he isnt an offensive coordinator but he can teach players the game an he has made some of the best Recievers in the league, including Andre Johnson from his Miami Days. Just a couple of guys to look at.

absolutely, there's no guarantee of success for anyone.

One game really doesn't make effective scouting, though, anymore than looking up the top prospect at a position makes for good scouting. I don't know what game you're talking about, personally. I've never seen them not represent well.

As for time as an assistant, again, Harbaugh's done that at the pro level.

I get liking or not liking a guy, but discounting on things that have little to do with him is something I have issues with. FWIW, I don't think he'll come out, I don't think he'd come here. I think plenty of people are in love with him based on Luck and that tie. But looking at him versus a Schottenheimer, Grimm, or any of the other offensive prospects, I just see a much better fit.

I like Harbaugh a ton but I don't think he is primed for an NFL coaching job yet. I don't think he'd take it either. If Stanford doesn't hold onto him (which they will do just about anything to do so) he'll go to a bigger school and bigger conference.

NFL isn't in the future for him.
