Potential Head Coaches

GReat Valid Points...From your thread. Its a toss up..But it should be a great search.. But for an offensive guy to compete against that its going to be very hard...

BJM56, this is not aimed at you directly, but I just wanted to make a point on your last sentence based on things I've read about the Panthers' preference for their next HC.

IMO the Panthers are going to have to approach their search with more of an open mind if they are to successfully find Fox's replacement. Just fixating their search on a defensive mind coach b/c they are supposedly better at "problem solving" to me is a bit narrow-minded. Who's to say an offensive minded coach is not a good "problem-solver"? Sometimes the people you hire to work along with is the smartest move you can make. Who's to say a good offensive minded coach wouldn't be willing to bring in a very good defensive minded "problem-solver" and let him do his job? I know I'm saying this b/c my personal favorite for Fox's eventual replacement would be Brian Schottenheimer (so I am a bit biased), but I would hate to see the team miss out on a real good prospect, be that Schotty or someone else, because they're unwilling to think outside of the box.

Most likely it will be a 3-4 defense..Most young coaches will go 3-4 defense anyway because it is a trend.. Somebody like leslie frazier he will probably run a 4-3 or run a tampa 2 scheme.Or Ron Rivera..But I doubt Ron Rivera will be our Head coach I sseriously doubt that..Also i believe if leslie Frazier is our Head coach he might bring in RonRivera as Defensive Coordinator because they do have ties..But anybody else most likely will run a 3-4.Also Carolina has no d-line in the first place. And it will take a lot to rebuild it.So it might just be easier to run 3-4...Also Just a thought I wrote a post about Rob Ryan been our coach.Just because he had a some what steady Defense.

But this year his defense Played Pretty Well against NFC South teams. And they Stop the saints, in our divsion that is what we are looking to do Stop the saints falcons and the Upcoming Bucs.I believe when the browns play the panthers it could be a Interview for both Rob Ryan and John Fox..

Prowler2K8- You have a good point but its just the thought that Jerry Richardson most likely will go after some one who fits his Profile. He has mostly interviewd defense guys.Probably due to the fact it has always been more defensive guys. But i understand were you are coming fromI believe he will be a good choice. But His Offense isnt high profile like i expect it 2 be. Its either him or Grimm or Harbaugh ( Long Shot), and heimerdinger.Out of All I believe Heimerdinger Grimm and Schottenheimer..But Josh mcdaniels up in denver might make it hard for young Coordinators to get a job..

Good point, didn't think about Josh McD. Personally, I thought it was a mistake for Denver to hire McDaniels b/c I didn't think he was ready. And right now, the Broncos have some personnel issues of their own. I just hope McDaniel's tenure in Denver does prevent the Panthers from exploring all options.

I think we will stick with the 4-3 thats what we are built for.Plus are best LB is not a fit in 3-4.

Two or three teams went with young head coaches a little while back (call it the NFL's "youth movement" if you want). The idea was that if a team got a young guy in and he took off, they could be set for the next decade or more. But the question would be "has it worked"?

The youngest coaches in the league right now are...

Josh McDaniels - Broncos, Age: 34, Current Record: 10-13

Raheem Morris - Bucs, Age: 34, Current Record: 7-15

Mike Tomlin - Steelers, Age: 38, Current Record: 36-18 (3-1 in the postseason)

Eric Mangini - Browns, Age: 39, Current Record: 30-41

Outside of Tomlin - who's part of the Steeler organization - it looks pretty bad. Denver and Tampa are hoping for better things, of course. And they may get them, but they may not.

Turns out experience may not be so overrated after all.

Beason is a fit in a 3-4 he is 6'1 Or 6'0 All of the others are about 6'2 there isnt that much of a difference.. Lawarence Timmons is 6'1 Farrior is 6'2 From the steelers.. Ravens Ray Lewis is 6'1 Jameel McClain is 6'1..Jets Bart Scott 6'2 david Harris 6'2. RedSkins London Fletcher is 5'10, Mcintosh 6'2. Carolina Beason Is 6'0 and connor is 6'2.. So everybody isnt that tall.He is taller the Fletcher and Fletcher is Playing great in the 3-4.. We have 2 good MLB in Beason and Connor, We just Need an Edge Rusher We already have 1 in Evertt Brown We just need another Maybe Shawn Merriman we can pick up in free agency.Or Lamar Woodly He will be a free agent after the season.Who Knows Anderson becomes a free agent also davis.Davis is pretty much injury prone 2 years back to back injured..The only thing we will need to work on is the d-line..The secondary is good with Godfrey who could be a great Blitzing safety in the 3-4 and also Gamble is a good Cover Corner..

I mean its likely 4 us 2 change to a 3-4 then 2 stay as 4-3 defense.. I mean We have no pass rush...We gotta do something 2 developed a better pass rush. But I only see Leslie frazier Having us stay as a 4-3 anybody else No..

Actually, a good number of the guys on the list have done both.

The only guy I could see unquestionably going 3-4 would be Keith Butler. Grimm might be another since he's a Steelers product, but he saw a 4-3 in Washington when he started his career. Unknown what he'd prefer.

McDermott would most definitely be 4-3. And my gut feeling is that Zimmer and Rivera would both go back to 4-3 as head coaches because that's where their roots lie.

Thats the Point..Right Now Zimmerman Might be the Bengals coach next Season, Mcdermott most liekly is out of been a coach race. Its going to be Pretty Hard 2 get Butler...The only one that is left is Ron Rivera. He has a chance at been the panthers coach.I want say he will be number 1 on the the list but some were down the line...also Frazier also..

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
