Stopped by practice today...

most teams have been blitzing on most downs. i think that the saints did it the least, only keeping their's to 3rd downs.

the thing that i think has been rattling clausen and messing up the oline is that there are people blitzing in from every angle and they are sending so many people in so often. other teams aren't just stacking the box. they've dealt with that before. they are rushing in a lot more with it. imo, until they start preparing for that, very little else will work.

i am curious to know what kind of shells they had going. if it was cover 1 shells then that would more prepare them for what they are seeing provided the backfield is getting the same amount of pressure they have been. more than cover 2 is just jumping the gun right now. they really haven't had to face that much.

Sorry, when I said "shells" I meant they were practicing in their light pads - not full pads, so there was only light contact.

Clausen should start. The thing about Matt Moore that bothers me this year is that he has been making mistakes that a three year player shouldn't be making.

I can tolerate mistakes from a hot shot rookie while he gets a handle on the speed of the game more than a bungling veteran. Clausen is getting his "Welcome to the NFL" moment and once he adjusts he'll be fine.

He gets the spotlight from day one so other players are determined to make him earn it. You may have a very good QB who may be a better prospect than your current #1 so see what you got, plus he has a 4yr contract.

He's a tough player. He seems to adapt pretty well. Nice bullet pass, Kerry Collins Jr, the shorter one. He wants to win BADLY. That is the major difference I see between him and #3.

Until either QB can trust their Oline we will not get far. Fiametta is going to have to man up and stop the cutblocks clogging up the running lane, run through your guy, so we can run the ball!

Clausen is going to start, its the same crap Fox did last year when Jake was screwing up. He talked about a QB change, but didn't happen till he got hurt.

Plus, Moore said in the C.O. today that Fox hadn't said more than four words to him since the Chicago game. Not a glowing endorsement.

They split time, because WRs actually like to practice catching the ball more than five yards past the line of scrimmage.

Will be interesting to see how it turns out. If practice alone is deciding who starts, I would say Moore has a huge edge.

Just hope we don't bounce through QBs, no matter who goes.

That was a big reason I thought Moore would start, then everyone jumped all over me. Glad you agree though

"Moore...you're my guy!" - Fox

What if those were the four words? Seriously though that can't be good news but I wonder how many he said to Jimmy. I didn't hear this quote from Moore, where/when was it?

The last sentence made me lol.

RUn blitzing is not at all the same as blitzing on passing downs which is where Clausen is getting sacked and throwing the pass away. Run blitzing will continue as long as he can't make audibles at the line and change plays to get the ball out in space with Smoke routes, swing passes or wide pitches.

What is messing up Clausen is that he can't read the blitz and doesn't know what to call to get out of it. As one poster said earlier, he calls signals with his mouthpiece out and then puts it in his mouth and start the snap cadence. All the defender has to do is wait for him to put the mouthpiece in and change the defense. Clausen so far hasn't pulled it out again and changed the play but kept the same play in. With it taking so long to get the plays in and up to the line, he wouldn't have time to change it if he wanted to.

As for stacking the box, they will continue to do it until Clausen can show he can read the defense, audible to another play and make them pay, Since he hasn't been able to do that, it won't change no matter what they practice. SF will look at game film from Chicago and are likely licking their lips. I would be coming on every down as well given he hasn't shown he can beat it, throw it deep, or even audible out to another play. Until the passing game looks better the offense will continue to struggle. And that is on him.

Eeeehhh, not really the same situation.

Delhomme had led the team to a Super Bowl and an NFC Championship. Fox was loyal to him as much as anything because of what he had accomplished. That, plus his teammates always had his back.

Obviously, neither guy has accomplished that much yet, and it'd be hard to imagine deep loyalty in either direction.

I still think it'll be Clausen, but it's not a lock.

Every QB does that.

Generally it would be a bad idea to change the defensive set after the QB has come set. If the Defense is moving the QB can change his cadence and quick snap and catch the defense out of position.
