When does a new coach stick with the old QB

the panthers were already in this position in 2002, Hurney & fox had a top 3 pick, two qb's in that draft had the same type of hype all "franchise qb's" get. they chose peppers over harrington. 7 years latter it's looks like a no brainer but many in the nfl questioned the move considering we had peete & weinke at the time.

speaking of Harrington, Marrucci kept him after replacing mornhinweg, mooch gave him 2 full seasons after his rookie season to claim the job. not only that but detroit with top 10 picks during this time passed on a chance to trade up & take rivers & also passed big ben altogether. why?(cause the gm was sold on harrington)

Yep. Mariucci has since made it clear that it wasn't his choice.

Millen

Ya know the Manning thing is not that far fetched. He sure doesn't look happy in Indy. Caldwell is a POS and he might want out.

It would be hilarious if Manning was on the Panthers roster today.

Can you imagine the Epileptic fit Davidson would have trying to call plays for Peyton Manning? :D

Yea the answer to this question is when the coach was fired/retired from a winning team. (Schottenheimer, Bill Cowher, Dungy, etc)

There are rare exceptions to this like Drew Brees in 2002. But normally if a new coach has been hired, the team struggled the year before and the QB play was likely horrible. A new QB being brought in, even if old ones are retained, is a given.

Wow, I completely missed that one. That's about as close a fit to our situation as I know of.

I guess it's just that I never really think of Detroit as a professional football team. My bad.

Honestly, if we picked up Manning, I'd be all for firing Davidson and not bothering to replace him with any OC. Not like he'd be needed at that point :D

New HC would probably scrub everyone and start fresh, unless Hurney/JR made them stick to a guy on the current roster. Whether that is Clausen, Moore, or Pike? Who knows... I'm still not sure where the f*ck any of this "potential" talk is coming from. So far, I've only seen suck, suck a little bit less, and who knows if he's suck or not from those three. Nothing is giving me hope for the future at QB so far this season, so I hope the whole franchise from top to bottom gets blown up this offseason, and we start with a clean slate next year.

(Edit: just to qualify my response, there are obviously guys who will make this team like Beason, Smitty, etc., but I want the new coach to come in and make them friggin earn it. Not sit there and promise them a spot, regardless of past history or production. No one is safe imo, as it should be every year in the NFL for any team.)
