When does a new coach stick with the old QB

I caused a stir by raising this question at another website. So, I may as well cause a stir here.

When has a coach come into a franchise, who is NEW to the franchise (no in-house promotions), and where the franchise is in a full rebuild mode, and not replaced the QB within a year?

Charlie Weis taking over as Offensive Coordinator in KC and keeping Matt Cassel?

I don't think Dungy replaced the starter when he went to the Colts.

It usually happens when there are established QBs (i.e. Jimmy Johnson taking over the Dolphins and telling Dan Marino "you're number one" or Norv Turner assuming the reins and keeping Philip Rivers).

Also been known to happen when someone takes over a team that just used a high pick on a QB (our situation, and as bolt mentioned with the Chargers in 2002) although the coach might bring in his own veteran guy as a backup/mentor/insurance policy.

Marty with Brees in 02.

Neither the Chargers nor the Dolphins were rebuilding. That's a key part of the question.

Whether it happens with us depends a lot on the next 11 games.

If Fox reinserts Moore at some point, or if something happens that puts Pike up there, if for whatever reason we have a full blown QB controversy or if it just turns out that nobody looks that good, then expect a new starter.

My personal feeling: We'll stick with Clausen, but anything can happen.

How many stipulations does that question have? You're trying to narrow a question down until it is so narrow, people can't help but to agree.

When was the last time a team was truly in re-build mode? I wouldn't even classify us in a re-build mode, we're in a "save money now so we won't get fug if there's a lock-out next year" mode.
