Jerry Richardson called me this morning! Not a joke

So a PSL owner can take the seat home with him if he want's to since he owns it? I agree JR should say something just know it's not gonna happen.

My wife made snuggies for our two seats. This way they will stay nice and cozy when we are not sitting in them.

It's very odd, but after reading that post I'm not as angry at JR. He didn't think we would be this bad, and we're going to rebuild after the labor talks have been resolved. Fair enough. I was going to go to a few games this season, but I can find something else to do. Each game that passes bring us one step closer to the end of this horrible season. The draft should be fun at least, and seeing Otah and TD back out there should be nice. I've reached the acceptance stage of the grieving process.

DoubleTrouble33 I believe you. JR was a player at one time. He brought this team to Carolina. Why would he intentionally F_k this team. I do believe the Panthers let the big money go thinking the young guys could step up. I don't think anyone. ( I SURE DIDN'T) Thought after 5 games we would be 0-5. I believe they thought our young players will be great players. We may have to shed our diapers but I still believe we have what it takes to win games in the NFL.

I think more ingenuity would be a good idea for our offensive coordinator to use.

Stop lining up in the Power I and expect anyone to believe you are gonna play action pass. SPREAD IT OUT!!!!! The defense will follow. Once you have their attention then we can pound them.

Whether it's true or not..........admitting to throwing the season away is wrong on ALL fronts.....

It's not fair to Steve Smith, D Williams, Stewart, Beason, Gross or any of the other premium veterans who are stuck playing on an admittedly inferior team.

It's not fair to the PSL holders who are forced to pay for an inferior product.

It's not fair to the sponsors who have already forked out money for an inferior product.

It's not fair to the average fan who has invested their Sunday afternoon watching an inferior product.

How can Richardson justify placing an inferior product on the field?

this.

forget all that future crap, we should want to win every year, all the time. what makes JR think beason is going to want to stay, or Kalil, or Williams, or any of our big name core players. Hell, I know Steve Smith is tired of this. Yea, most of these players care about the money, but they're also very competitive and want to win. We were set up to lose from the get-go, and I could look at this team early on and tell we werent going to be any good. Lol, talking about 20-30 years down the road. I want to see a superbowl championship win atleast before I die, and none of us are guaranteed to be here 20-30 years down the road. I'm a Panthers fan till the end, and respect JR for bringing me a home team I can root for, but I dont like how he went about this. His "plan" could very well backfire, and we could lose all of our core players, and stay sorry for quite awhile. Like most of yall say...he's a smart businessman and got to were he is by being smart and taking risk. Well, I hope this risk works :rolleye:

riddel, your post is so long I'm not going to quote it here. I did read it, uh, quickly.

There wasn't always a players union. In fact, it's quite a recent development given NFL history. What you say that now they don't need representation was not always true. Hence, the union. There also never was a retirement fund or health benefits before the union. It is those side issues that have kept the union in play. Not too long ago it use to be that football was a player's 2nd job and the season was shorter because of that.

Now teams' players are, team by team, decertifying the union so you may get your wish. I'm not sure it will work out as you describe. There will always be the Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder type owner.

So I just tried what the OP did, except made a business focused approach advising strategies for how you can both save some dough, retain fans, and still go get some players...this is what I got in response:

Mr. [My last name],

Will you share a phone number so we can have someone call you?

Regards,

Tracy Marino

Executive Assistant to the President

edit: I also stressed that I have been a PSL owner since the beginning...so I got that going for me ;)

20-30 years? Wow. That IS thinking long term.

So Jerry thinks this is the template for success? Cut cost, lame duck coach, raise ticket prices and no feedback unless someone rants to their email line? Hmmm....for some reason I don't think ANY of the other what 31 owners would follow this lead.

100% agree, thanks. I've been flamed recently for saying so too. I know I won't be here 20-30 years from now. And the football players for the next 15-25 years won't be playing then and won't want to wait so they won't be standing in line to sign with the Panthers.

Well, if the OP has the truth, it confirms what I've been saying since March because JR really didn't say much of anything, sounded almost like excuses for what he has already done.

Where have the other team owners been? He may have the majority but as a group the others must have a voice in this?

If he wants to build a team for his grandkids, fine. I'm not sure I can afford to continue buying season tickets so my grandkids can attend any games in 20-30 years.

MOST importantly, Richardson should be pushing for an open market, not a collective bargaining agreement. Why would you want to set maximum and minimum pay scales on a professional athelete? It makes no since. Labor unions are for employees who face unfair treatment and need representation. That's a joke. NFL players are individuals who deserve the opportunity to work out individual deals with no minimums or maximums. If the market were allowed to bear the economic costs, then what would happen is very simple. Players would be paid based on their performance rather than a league minimum or maximum. League minimum's for veterans have basically run quality veterans out of the league, because nobody wants to pay that much for an older players. If there were no minimum, then there would be more veterans playing, which would mean the younger stars would have time to develop, rather than throwing them in the mix before they are ready. Rookie salaries would not be as out of control if the market was allowed to bear all. The value of a players on the field performance would be rewarded, rather than their potential performance. The collective bargaining agreement has ruined football. It forces teams to part ways with players they have developed, because it's no longer economically feasible to keep them. It creates a rotating door, where the football system is more important than the individual talent. I believe in a football system that supports the talents of the individual players and player development that takes place. The collective bargaining agreement creates factory workers who are simply plugged into a position based on what that team can afford to pay that position. Watching Peppers leave the Panthers is a crime. I understand other circumstances played into his leaving, but the bottom line is the collective bargaining agreement allows NFL stars to walk away from teams, which makes being a fan of any team extremely difficult.

This year has been great. Teams have been allowed to stack up talent and watching teams like the Jets, Bears and Vikings (even the Dolphins) is exciting. Stars are assembled and these teams are playing the type of football that fans deserve. Other teams are succeeding, such as the Steelers, Giants and Packers because they have been successful at keeping their core together. Teams like the Panthers who have been gutted in an attempt to prepare for 2011 hold out, make me sick. How can you reassemble the talent the Panther's are releasing, if a collective bargaining agreement exists? You can't. We will have to develop rookie talent and then watch those rookies develop, only to see them leave in 4-6 years while they are peaking. Why? Because we won't be able to afford them and we will have to let them go. That sucks! End the labor unions. Make the NFL a free market. Free markets with regulations always work themselves out for the benefit of the market, meaning the fan.

I would not know where to start to pick this post apart

Good. I hope more and more people do this because obviously it is not falling on deaf ears since we're at least getting a response. I think the more we flood their inbox the more JR will realize his PSL owners and other fans aren't happy and can stop putting money in his pocket. I always thought that I would just get a generic response but obviously I did not.
