If you were a new coach coming in....

how many players would you keep to build around and who would they be?

I say DeAngelo (not as injury prone as Stewart), Kalil, Clausen, Beason, Gamble and maybe Otah. Everyone else...trade bait or cut bait.

Suffer one more year, get two years of good picks and build from there. Marty Schottenheimer has proven over and over again you can turn 2-14 into playoffs in two years.

Deangelo, Wharton, Stewart, Beason, Kalil, Otah, Gamble, Hardy, Ed Johnson, Charles Johnson, James Anderson, Charles Godfrey, Sherrod Martin, Steve Smith, David Gettis, Devin Thomas, Armanti Edwards, Brandon LaFell, Derick Landri, Munnerlyn, Dan Conner, TD, Matt Moore, Jimmy Clausen, Fiammetta. We've got talent we just don't have vet experience and the depth we need. Our WR's will have to ripen.

Maybe use Gross or Conner as trade bait. Or Otah instead of Gross if he can't heal up.

I wouldn't cut bait with Gross or Wharton. They are both above Average at what they do.

I honestly think the trouble with our oline right now is on the right side moreso than the left.

Gettis has showed promise as well as Greg Hardy. I think you could make a case to keep both of those guys.

I wouldn't trade Smith for scraps, but I do think if you are completely rebuilding trading an aging steve smith is probably wise.

If a new coach wants to come in and turn this around quick, he needs to address the following positions early in the next two drafts.

Defensive Tackle, Offensive Line, and Cornerback.

With the addition of a pocket collapsing defensive tackle, the current defense would be much improved.

I think you need a CB because munnerlyn is average and I don't think Marshall will be back.

I hate the idea of drafting recievers. I would rather pick up a proven free agent, or trade for a proven veteran. Rookie recievers are the biggest unknowns in the NFL. A 7th round pick can often outperform a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

It depends greatly if Hurney is still GM. If he is, then don't see a lot of players moving on. The new HC will get stuck with the current bunch.

You can turn 1-15 to playoffs in one year..just saying..

Anyways, on topic, I'd keep a lot more than that.

This team has talent, it just lacks experience.

Why would you tear apart the team? That's only going to cause us to go backwards.

Unless you Chicken Littling like the other 90% oif the fanbase..

Beason, Kalil, Gamble, Otah, DWill, Gettis, Edwards, Goodson, Wharton, Gross, Schwartz, Rosario, Thomas, Smith, Godfrey, Davis, Martin, Cap'n, Brown, Ed Johnson, Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy, Anderson, Baker, Fiametta, Barnidge

Everyone else would be trade bait.

clausen (esp. if you can find him a good vet QB to back him up and offer advice on the sidelines, a good QB coach, and a good OC)

williams and stewart - starting a young and green QB, you have to have RBs capable of running the ball 550+ times. you have these two on your roster, you keep them. getting rid of either wouldn't make the team any better.

the whole Oline except RG (which needs to be addressed in a big way in the next draft or via FA.

charles johnson/everette brown/greg hardy

beason/TD (if healthy)/anderson/connor/norwood

gamble/munnerlynn

godfrey/martin

of the WRs i would keep maybe edwards just because of the potential. i would keep who ever else had the best chemistry with clausen from this season. doubtful i would keep more than 2 other than edwards, though. i'd also get the best FA WR there is.

i'd only go aj green with the first pick if the patrick peterson wasn't there. if neither are there then i go BPA among the CBs and WRs. we'll probably have a good hot at either one of green or peterson, though.

DT, CB, WR and RG are the chief priorities though WR largely depends on how these guys work out.

TEs and kickers...the least number of bodies we can get to do the job, the better. i'd be fine just getting rid of king.

kasay and lloyd would be gone quickly. no reason to have two bodies taking roster spots when one would do.

You gonna part ways with Steve Smith? What about Gettis/LaFell?

i want whoever can gel with my young QB. you pick WRs that will be productive with your QB.

i'm not sold on any WRs at the moment.

smith is turning into a grumpy old man and he's getting hurt a lot. at some point you have to cut ties. he's better than everyone else but if he can't get along with the guys he needs to (not that i am saying that is happening yet) then he needs to go.

the other guys have potential but i only want to keep around the productive ones. i'm not going to attach any names to those guys just yet.

a team is only one year away from competing at any point... the quality of players on this team especially proves that true... so I wouldn't necessarily cut a lot of people.

but really, I'd have to see their body of work for this year since so many of them are so young.

yeah, i wouldn't do a lot of cutting necessarily. i'd be looking to improve at all places if i could.

most of the cutting that goes on when a new coach comes to town and rebuilds are ones that have been there forever. thats already been done.
