The better question: How can anyone justify Clausen over Moore?

I think that both Clausen and Moore give us about the same chance of winning this season....slim.

Therefore, you make the choice of you you think is your long-term answer and go with him

and I would agree 100% w/ that reasoning. However, we have a lameduck coach. Neither could be in our future plans. If Fox was going to be here fine.....but he isn't.

Not sure Fox is in control of anything at this point. Things seems to suggest he isn't.

Why do you think that just because Fox is leaving, Clausen won't be here next year? He is virtually guaranteed to at least get a look by whoever our next coach is. If he turned out to be any good, he would certainly keep him around for a while anyway. Plus, I think it's Hurney, maybe JR, who are the reason Clausen got the nod in the first place...

Moore is the guy who is less likely to be in a Panther's uniform next year. :(

If I was Fox, I would have put Moore in there while there was still a chance to win the game, and I would probably keep him in there for the duration. I still like JC for the future, but he is not ready and it won't hurt his development at all to have him sit for a while.

That game was still very, very winnable. He put Moore in there when there was a chance.

edit: a remote, "yell at the qb and watch him throw 2 touchdowns in like 3 minutes" chance, but yeah - 3 minutes down by 2 TDs is still possible, albeit remote.

either way, we saw what we've seen of Moore this season all the time.. :(

That is very true especially if Moore doesn't play the rest of the year. Clausen will be here for a couple of years at least. He is cheap and like Weinke would be a good backup if we decide to bring in a veteran starter instead. The irony here is that playing Clausen all year if he continues to play poorly will be much like we did with Weinke. He will actually stand less of a chance of starting with new coaching perhaps feeling he had his chance versus grooming him on the bench like Green Bay did with Rodgers or Dallas did with Romo.

Fox gave Weinke virtually no chance to play here after his rookie year.

And really Weinke played much better than either Moore or Clausen through 3 games. Weinke completed 63% of his passes for 7 yards an attempt with 2 Tds, 2 Ints and a passer rating between 89 and 71. Interestingly he didn't improve during the year actually regressing as the losses piled up.

I didn't mean to imply Clausen wouldn't here. I'm just saying the future as in next season or two.....might not be Clasuen penciled in as a work in progress a new coach is going to ride as a starter. Moore is gone. I highly doubt a new coach is gonna say okay, we are going to continue this Clausen experiment as I start my career as HC in Carolina.

Therefore is likely a season that could but Clausen further behind the 8 ball. I don't see the point in that.

Fox not being here to continue w/ Clausen makes me not like what is going on. Only think Fox should trying to do is win a game. I think winning next week Moore makes sense. If Fox was going to be our HC then I would probably lean toward Clausen next week.

are you crazy? a very winnable game when Moore was inserted? and your facts are wrong. Fox claimed that game was over.....it wasn't.

the Chicago game was over when Moore took the field.

3 mintues and down by 14 is when Moore took the field.

a winnable game in the 4th quarter was week 2. Down by 13 w/ the ball and over 10 minutes.

Dude, Moore had about 5 minutes to make up 14 points and the Bears knew damn well that he had to throw on every down. It was way too late to do anything but heave desperation throws, and that situation almost always produces an INT's no matter who the QB is.

Didn't Weinke run a WCO?

A hybrid of it. Seifert used the West Coast offense as his base design but if you look at the numbers we actually ran for 1400 yards and passed for 2900 yards. We passed more than we ran (354 rushes to 578 passes) but really in many years under Fox we did the same thing.

Under Henning in 2004 we ran for 1584 and threw for 3643 which was similar. We also ran 422 plays and passed for 536.

Normally a WCO gives you a higher completion rate but lower YPA. In Weinke's case compared to Clausen he has a higher completion rate and much higher YPA. If you look at Clausen's very low YPA you would think he was playing in a WCO. Badly, I might add.

why do we keep going over this? it's really this simple, Matt Moore has NO FUTURE WITH THIS TEAM,WE ARE NOT GOING TO WIN MANY GAMES THIS YEAR PERIOD, SO WHETNER CLAUSEN IS BETTER THAN MOORE IS IRRELEVANT, WE NEED TO PLAY GUYS WHO HAVE SOME SORT OF FUTURE HERE PERIOD!!!!!!

Depends who you ask. The players and Fox want whoever can win this year. Maybe Hurney and Richardson are looking down the road but they are actually the minority not the majority.

Who knows if Clausen will be the guy next year. We suffered through Weinke the same way and he never played again. Same could happen with Clausen. Why waste a whole year with someone who may be here but surely may not start or even play next year depending on what the new coach wants.
