The better question: How can anyone justify Clausen over Moore?

QBs et evaluated that way by people who want the decision made by a surface look. If you really want to dive into an analysis, you have to look deeper, into their perfromance in different situations. Answer the questions like why is QB A's passer rating so much worse when throwing left? Why does QB B take such a higher percentage of sacks? SUre there will always be soem variables but you get closer to a solution by liniting them as much as possible. THrowing everything into a big pot and them looking will accomplish nothing but allow folks to twist the interpretations to suit themselves.

You can get as technical as you want, but in the NFL most people break it down to those stats I have listed above. That's what you will find on just about every major sports sight, or article or Hall of Fame achievements.

You will see a record in the Hall of Fame about most consecutive starts, wins, loses, ratings, touchdowns, interceptions.........you will rarely see a record about what QB threw best on which side of the field. And if you do, most people will not care.

The stats I posted come right off of ESPN, as they list them. What you are talking about is for scouting agents and coaches to worry about, not general conversations and comparisons.

He broke his leg in 2009? In the preseason? Oh, I thought that was 2008. I thought against Philly in Week 1, when Jake went out, Josh McCown stepped in. Then once he was hurt, Moore stepped in. Where am I wrong?

He broke his leg the year before and never got his job back. I don't see how that's getting demoted one bit. Also, you obviously saw who the better QB was and so that depth chart for 3-4 plays in 09 really meant a lot huh.

I thought it was last year that Dan Morgan was on here basically poo talking Moore and saying how he didn't know the playbook and how little confidence the team and players had in the guy from people he'd talked to. I dismissed it as crazy, but tbh, benching him after two games does seem to show that. I know you don't want another season gone the way of the Jake Toilet, but still seemed weird.

At the time (and even now) I think getting Clausen experience is valuable, but I hope Moore makes the most of it. Still, I wonder who he has pissed off and how.

Well, since we're using "straight facts homie," he didn't get his job back because McCown outplayed him in the preseason last year. I remember because I was cheering for Moore but he lost the job, which, might I add, Fox said of the backup job, "it's open competition." He lost it. He was #3 behind Carr and Testaverde, then #2 behind Jake, then #3 behind Jake and McCown. And yes, we clearly saw the better quarterback who threw an interception in comparison to someone who got hurt after those 3-4 plays of which you speak.

The point is moot now, because the change took place.

But it wasn't about justifying Fox's decision. I don't believe it was Fox's decision, except on the surface, as you say. The original question was simply to point out that Matt got benched and everyone justified it as a result of us losing 2 games and making big mistakes, but then we went and lost 3 with Jimmy while he also made big mistakes. He was supposed to create a spark on offense and win and he did not. So considering the fact that Moore does have a reliable track record, has won games, while Jimmy has neither....how could have anyone justified his continuation as a starter?

Again, I think the fact that this change took place answers the question. You couldn't have justified his continuation.

And unlike the first, I think this new move is Fox's decision, both on the surface and underneath.

No, you're completely ignoring what Fox said because it doesn't go in line with what you're saying. You can't do that and expect me to take you seriously. He had every chance to get it back, but he didn't. As I said before, I hoped that he did, but he didn't. Go back and read my posts from last year's preseason for proof. I started a thread about it.

Or there are forces involved trying to keep/gain some fan interest for the sake of sales. For the record, I think the decision to go to Clausen was made by Fox. The fact that Clausen has also struggled has resulted in the pressure to return to Moore. Holding off until the bye week only makes sense, an extra week for the transition. If you truly look at the performance of each QB as they have done in the world of now, Clausen has an edge. If you give credit for how somebody did last year or 3 years ago, with entirely different players involved, not even close to the same situation as now, you could nod towards Moore. That mentality also drives us back to the arguement that everything will be alright because we went to the superbowl in 2003.
