Changing the gameplan won't work because our QB is a rookie, we may have the worst O-Line in the league (currently), and some of our WRs can't catch the ball or get open. It's just a nightmare situation that can't get any better until most of those things improve. In our case, the O-Line and WRs need to improve first, which in turn will help out the rookie QB.

Actually it is just the opposite. A quarterback who can actually read a defense, can call audibles and knows where to throw it can make sure folks are in the right place to make plays.

A quarterback with a quick release instead of a slow windup makes any O- line look better since they don't have to sustain the blocks so long.

A quarterback who stays in the pocket and buys time by shifting back and forth instead of running at the first sign of pressure allows the O line to know where he is instead of wondering where he is running.

And a quarterback who when he sees a blitz coming can actually change the play can make something out of nothing instead of the inevitable sack.

A quarterback who can actually throw the ball down the field and open up the box gets blitzed much less than one who can't and there is no fear of a passing attack.

So no it isn't the O-line or WRs who are supposed to make Clausen look good, most of the time it is the other way around, the quarterback can help the WRs by throwing catchable balls, audiblizing and directing the offense. He helps the O line by driving safeties out of the box by throwing deep and having a quick release.

Uptown & p55, I'd pay money to see one of those 3 offensive problems clear up. I don't care which one. Gotta start somewhere. And right now anywhere is good.

If a team forces you to be one dimensional you are going to struggle. The Panthers problem is that their entire scheme and personnel is DESIGNED to be one dimensional. Our OLine can't pass block and our receiving threats don't scare anyone.

Teams are going to stack the box all day. The only way you are going to get them to back off is if you burn them on a couple of long pass plays. But our OLine can't give our QB (whoever it is) enough time, and our WRs aren't the type of playmakers you can rely on to make that happen.

As P55 said you have to use playaction and really sell it.

The quick routes beat the blitzes, but not a stacked zone.

Thats one problem, Jimmy doesnt sell that poo.

They are not sending in two or three plays for Clausen to be able to audible. Understandable with him being a rookie and probably not recognizing enough defenses to be able to audible, but something needs to change. These are the time when Jake is missed...

Thats very true. Jake was very good at looking over the defense and changing the play to something that would work. Haven't seen much of that this year.

Yeah I never really agreed with cutting Jake, but only because we still had to pay him. He was a veteren that knew our playbook inside out and would've given us another avenue to pursue if he was still on the roster. If only he could've gotten rid of that Smith vision he had, but oh well. Yes our O line needs to get better. Maybe Otah will be able to play after the bye and #73 ain't been good either and what gives wit all the false starts. To me false starts is coaching/discipline.
