If they really want to go the Steelers route then they will draft Ryan Mallett who is comparable to Big Ben.

I think Mallet is going to be a bust. He's a big, mobile guy, but he doesn't strike me the same way Ben did with his play in college. The times I've watched Mallett, his arm strength didn't impress me either for how big he is.

We will have Smith back next year along with Gettis if he still improves over the season. Lafell needs to learn to catch and Edwards is still green but he might make it. Need more playing time to know for sure. We are stuck with them right now. This isnt including our TE's we have enough options at receiving. We just need someone that can get the ball to them. Our defensive line is terrible in the middle. Chicago did us a favor and helped our stats but their offensive line is terrible.

Im a true beleiver in if you have a dominant line it doesnt matter about the rest. we need to get the defensive line back to like it was before. After that we need to get some quality backups and then a offensive lineman. Wide receiver is so far down the needs right now.

Yeah, no doubt that the game is "won in the trenches." But, I think we could pick up a DT in FA to help up front and we'll be fine. I could be wrong, but I like what I've seen from Landri as a pass rusher from there and Ed Johnson hasn't been horrible. I think we could use a big, run-stopper to help there with options and free up the other DT and DE on his side. Start Hardy and Johnson on the outsides and I think that'll be an awesome line next year.

I believe in solid line play being the foundation for success, but my belief is that these lines, when healthy and properly configured are good-great where they stand (aside from picking up another DT as I mentioned).

Our offense has been so weak for years now in regards to the passing game, I just want to see us address it. Imagine having a QB that can literally make all the throws and the team around him better... On top of the guys we have at RB, especially if DWill is back. To me that would just put us over the top and we'd be set for years to come. I believe the defense already has all the talent, it's just not being used to its full potential. We've went with the safe, conservative picks in the 1st round and we've never really been dominant, although they were great picks. We've built the defense up and the OL with 1st rounders, so they're fairly solid for the long-term. We need an infusion of talent at the skill positions - namely QB, IMO.

As I've said, Clausen could be that guy, but we don't know. I'm just not putting my eggs in that basket considering how he's played thus far.

Mallett is literally retarded.

Exactly like I've said in other posts, and exactly like p55 said. We have a project QB. So why would we go and grab a top flight receiver, when we don't even have a guy who can get him the ball on a consistent basis?

You mentioned Calvin Johnson, but even if we did have Calvin Johnson, there is still no one who can get him in the ball. Hell, our line-up could consist of Rice, Moss, Carter, and Owens in their prime, and we still couldn't get them the ball.

There are two players in the draft who are completely game-changers. Guys who can't be stopped, who won't be stopped. Patrick Peterson is number one. Marcell Dareus is number two.

You all keep talking up AJ Green around here, what about the fact that Patrick Peterson has literally shut him down. (Green had four catches against him last year, Julio Jones had 3.) Patrick Peterson is a monster return guy, an immediate shut-down corner, and a guy offensive would have to gameplan around. (The better he plays, the better our defensive line looks.)

Marcell Dareus is a Top 5 DT. He's a pass-rushing monster, and can blow up double teams and chip blocks. He burst through South Carolina's line, last week, like lead through cheese cloth, and kept hitting Garcia. He's cocky, he's arrogant, and he carries the Saban swagger.

I would not call him a project QB. I would call him a rookie QB playing behind a bad team.

Its way to early to write Clausen off at least give him the season and see what you have.

If we take an offensive player it should be on the line. If the qb doesn't have time to throw then the qb and wr don't make plays. Corner would be a bit of a reach considering it's not as big an issue but if it was Peterson he'd be the exception.

How is CB not as big of an issue? Richard Marshall will most likely be gone, and that will leave us with Gamble, Cap'n, and Wilson.

My two cents. Heresy and outrage to follow. Trade Smith and Dwill. Smith to the Pats or somewhere in the AFC for draft picks. Trade D-will to the Redskins or Packers for draft picks. This is a all in move and a drastic one but it makes sense in the following ways.

First replacing D-Will. Fact is he will return to form soon as we trade him yes. But with upcoming contract demands and the season going the way it is why not strike while the iron is hot. Fact is we have Stewart and Goodson could be a change of pace and 3rd down back.

Second, regarding Smith. Does he look happy here? Give him a couple of years with Brady to pump up his stats and insure him a HOF bid. Keeping him here is just plain greedy.

So lets say Smith is worth a second and a third to the pats and D-Will is worth a 1st and a 3rd to the Redskins or Packers. Here is a possible draft for us.

1a. AJ Green WR

1b. Nick Fairley DT

2. Jerrell Powe J DT

then combine our two 3rds and trade back into the 2nd do get a RB like Mikel Leshoure.

Young cheap revamped team. Interior D vastly improved. New number 1 WR. New young RB. Great franchises reload. Clausen needs a group of WR he can grow with.

Marshawn Lynch got a 4th and a 6th, remind me again of how DWill would get a 1st and a 3rd?

Also, the Pats just traded a 4th for Deion Branch, and it's been reported they are officially out of the WR market, as of right now.

Drafting Luck is extremely unlikely even if we had the #1 overall pick.

The best thing to do assuming we don't trade away our best players (we aren't going to so stop suggesting it please) is to trade down for a mid first and whatever we can get, then grab the BPA that is a lineman on either side. OL and DL need tuning and getting both into form (upper echelon) will have a huge impact on our chances for success next (actual) season.

hard to guess since we don't know who the next coach will be. DE/DT/CB would make the most sense if Fox stayed and we continued sailing down the same road.

New coach could say screw Jimmy, I am going to go out and bring in a QB to win games now. Then I think WR could make the most sense.
