So Uhh..yeah how about that Fitzgerald vs. Smith debate

Recommended Posts

you can't compare wide receivers with different QBs.

by that logic Randy Moss sucked when he was in Oakland, then in one season became the greatest WR ever when he set the TD record.

no, he had a different QB. it's pointless to try to speculate on how WRs match up with different people throwing to them.

put Fitz on the Panthers and he would have the same catches as Moose.

Let's see how Fitz would do with a spastic quarterback throwing the ball everywhere except where it's supposed to be and then tell me how great he is.

Josh McCown was his QB in 2004 and for a majority of 2005. Matt Leinart was his QB in 2006, his rookie year.

Fitz also has Boldin to compliment him and they also use a pass oriented offense where as Smith has Moose( Who is ok) in a running team where the QB refuses to spread the ball around and get Smith open more often. We've got Moose, Smith, Hackett, Jarrett, Rosario, and King, how often do we use all of them? Never.

Cards fan are still smoking that pipe, eh? Yeah, Fitzgerald is sick, any team would love to have him. But the guy doesn't do a single thing, hasn't made a single catch that Smitty can't make. On the other hand, Smitty has the ability to embarass defenses once he gets the ball. Fitzgerald is great at going up and getting it, but isn't very impressive once he has it. Smitty can go up and get any ball, but once he has it he will amaze you. Someone post a link to his play against the Texans last year.

Anyway, I think this is pretty much a pointless debate, given that Smitty was the only receiver to average over 100 yards a game during the regular season, and did everything that Fitzgerald did, with a mediocre QB, whereas Fitz had an elite passer throwing to him.

you really nailed that one hdevonx...that grammar makes all the difference in that postulate right? (Which by the way I haven't a clue what on earth you're yapping about)

Also, those saying Fitz is tall and what not...yeah it's not the man's fault he was built to be the perfect WR. It's like saying Keyshawn Johnson would be as fast as Smith if he had the same center of gravity and weight Smith had. Jerry Rice was a great WR quite alright, but pound for pound, muscle for muscle, there has never been another WR that was physically perfect for his position as Fitz is.

Smith is the better player, but only a fool that's ignorant of the game of football, would say he's the better WR. When Fitz had Leinart, McCown, and Rattay slinging the ball at him, he still produced on a regular basis, so chuck that argument into the sea.

Smith produced just fine when he had Carr, Testaverde and Moore throwing to him. I guess I'll settle for "Fitz is the better WR, Smitty is the better player," if you want to simply characterize a wide receiver by his catching skills. I guess a receiver shouldn't exactly be expected to make miracle plays after he catches the ball like Smith. Anyway, I'd rather have the better PLAYER on my team.

I agree with most of this, but when Smitty goes WAY UP to get a ball, he comes down in a crash and gets touched down. As seen yesterday, Fitz' height enables him to do the same, but come back and keep going. Both are A++ receivers but Fitz is better at bringing it back down (high pass).

They way Arizona lines Fitzgerald up in every position known to man and the schemes they use to get that guy open is perfect for his skill set. He really is in the ideal situation for the skills he has. They use him perfectly.

Which one is better, I dunno but I would love to have either one on my team.

Could you imagine an O with both of 'em? Of course the Cards have Boldin and Breaston, too.....
