So Uhh..yeah how about that Fitzgerald vs. Smith debate

Recommended Posts

Are you kidding me??!!?!? Yeah we will see how well Fitz does with Delhomme at QB, Fitz has a GOOD STATS QB! Fitz would never be able to do the tightrope play, because hes too tall and clumsy. Id take Smitty, his heart and passion is unmatched by NO ONE! If he wants it done, it will be done, and that's that.

Are you kidding me? Fitzgerald has walked the tight rope, and with the body control that he shows by going up and getting balls, I find it extremely difficult to call him "clumsy."

By your own argument, if Smith's heart and passion is unmatched by "no one," someone does match it. I believe Fitzgerald brings every bit the intensity that Smith does.

Also, Smith isn't God, so I don't know about all that "If he wants it done, it will be done" talk.

I guess I need to put my electric blue colored glasses back on.

Smitty is too for sure. I'm not all that impressed by Fitz's catches anyway like the one in Atlanta yeah hes tall and he jumped but smitty would have did it too. I mean Fitz is good and all, hes tall and has great hands but where is the separation for Fitz surpassing smitty in anything, you can only subtract from smitty by not being in a WCO or a great QB and he doesn't have 2 other 1000yd WRs by his side. Fitz is really NEVER double covered and lets not even go to YAC because smitty would just absolutely smoke him in that.

I didn't say that Smith wasn't great. Steve Smith has a lot to offer and probably would be better in a WCO or with a better QB. Steve has heart, aggressiveness and the ability to go get balls a lot of guys couldn't catch. But watching Fitz I have been seriously impressed. He has the range and catching ability that most guys his size don't have. He doesn't have to work as hard as Smith to catch the same types of passes.

I would personally rather have Smith because of his fire, and my argument wasn't against Smith, it was that while I think Fitz is great, he's not the best ever.

What a bunch of homers in this thread!!!

I love Steve Smith, but I believe I would happily take Fitz over him everyday and twice on Sunday.

Repeating what I've said before...

What I always take in account in these debates is which guy does something the other one doesn't.

I can't name anything Fitzgerald does that Smith can't do. What I haven't seen from Fitzgerald though is him taking short, quick passes and turning them into huge gains (or TDs). He's got decent RAC yards, yes, but Smith is more elusive in that department (a lot of that from his punt return experience, something else Fitzgerald doesn't do).

Fitzgerald is a huge threat in the pass game, and given his age and size, it's no great stretch to call him the best receiver in the game right now (all time is ridiculous at this point, way too early for that) but it's worth remembering that there are some things Smith does that Fitzgerald doesn't.

(and I'd have to add that he owes a big thank you for that postseason record to Mike Trgovac and John Fox for doing such an awful job defending him)
