Devin Thomas claimed by Panthers.

Devin Thomas is a good player. Hes still young, and I think hes going to be good. when he had a shot last year, he had Tds in that NO game last year.

Yeah, I agree, I don't get what everyone's problem is. Out of all the guys out there and in years past, this is the biggest FA signing we've made probably since Ken Lucas in terms of ability/potential, and he's still on his rookie contract... I have a good feeling about Thomas and what he's gonna do here.

And guess what guys? He's 6'2", fast, strong, AND HE DOESN'T HAVE THE HANDS OF A MIDGET! Awesome.

I'm sure he has been, but anyone that doesn't acknowledge the fact that the caliber of players AE faced in college are nowhere close to what he will face in the NFL is just being silly. We have already watched AE get hit in preseason and couldn't hold on to the ball and that was by players that were cut bait, dude just can't take the hits. He isn't ready for it yet. A couple of years to put on some weight on and maybe.

Horse poo. I acknowledge that Brad Hoover faced the same caliber of players and did ok. I remember 2 plays (maybe there were more) in preseason when AE got hit just after catching the ball. One he dropped and the other he held on to despite being rocked. Sounds about par for the course for a Panther rookie to me.

If all you know about AE was from pre season you don't know poo.

Imagine when Gettis reaches his potential in the future. We'd have 2 big, fast, strong receivers who could be the future of the team when Smitty decides to hang it up. Can you imagine that? Scary good. It's one of those things where the future is in the hands of the players and its up to them to decide if they want to reach their full potential or become another Dwayne Jarrett. Gettis so far looks determined. Thomas is a risky signing but if he straightens out, he could blow up. And we can take that risk during this throw away season.

http://www.tbd.com/blogs/tbd-skins/2010/10/mike-shanahan-devin-thomas-was-no-anthony-armstrong-2970.html

Shanahan on Sunday said that Thomas, "needed to do to be a pro football player, both on and off the field." When asked today to further elaborate on his view of Thomas' lack of professionalism, Shanahan said that Thomas still has a chance to be a player in the NFL, just not with the Redskins at this point.

"I think he can still play in the National Football League. But I’ve got to keep our top five wide receivers and we lost a running back. Devin was the next guy to go," Shanahan said. "Does that mean he can’t play in the National Football League? Absolutely not. Does it mean I don’t like Devin? Absolutely not. I encouraged Devin and said, ‘You’re a big kid, you’re strong, you’ve got a lot of speed. You want to get to the next level, you’ve got to get in a heck of an offseason program and be the best you can be. If you want to be good, you’re gonna be good. But you’ve got to make a total commitment. In this league it’s not based on talent, it’s based on people working extremely hard.’ I’ve got some strong feelings for Devin, and I like him quite a bit. I was being honest with him and hopefully he takes advantage of that down the road."

Thomas' former teammates when asked on Sunday about his release said they were surprised. Receiver Santana Moss said for the most part, he saw Thomas' exit coming.

"I'm surprised a little bit, but then again, you never know. I just feel like where Devin stood on this team, there was a lot he wasn't doing. He wasn't playing receiver, but was playing a lot of special teams. With a guy like that, that's so talented and not playing receiver, then something's wrong," Moss said. "But, everything happens for a reason. His situation could be better going somewhere else and getting a fresh start. I feel like he can be that guy, it was just some of the things here he had got himself in a hole and it wasn't a place he could climb out of."

What exactly those "things" were, are unclear, but recently a picture of him snoozing in a meeting surfaced on twitter, and Thomas in the past drew criticism for his offseason modeling projects and also for his role in a music video with Fantasia.

Thomas didn't have to wait long to get his fresh start, however. This afternoon he was claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers.

My favorite part... Yup, sounded personal. I think he's gonna be great here if we have a QB that can get it to him.

I'm confident that he's gonna be fine, I really think it was a clash of new-old school and personalities there. In that interview LaVar Arrington seemed really frustrated with how the situation was handled and repeatedly said - when you talk to some players, you can hear the intensity and dedication in their voice, and out of all 3 times he's talked to Devin, he struck him as one of those guys. He also didn't seem overly impressed with how Shannahan deals with players.

I also called the Gettis thing before TC, I said I could see him end up being as high as the #2 guy if he showed out b/c of his abilities/size... Hopefully I'm right about Devin too!

First thing I'd mention is this. Brandon LaFell as a rookie is better than anything Dwayne Jarrett ever did in his 4 years on the NFL. And because of roster cuts and player injuries, LaFell has been less exposed to veteran technique (Smith/Muhammad) both in the games and on the practice field. Hopefully, those points are worth some consideration, while we reduce him verbally as a player from afar.

We have Tyke Tolbert now, and until he fails to develop a highly touted rookie, or until he wastes our money on a washed up free agent, then he is still the coach that developed at least 3 competitive receivers at Buffalo(for God's sake!). This is the guy who plucked Gettis from thin air, and made him a sans-Smith starter. That is significant.

Devin Thomas apparently caught three touchdown passes from Jason Campbell last year. If I remember correctly, there weren't a lot of those to go around.

Normally, I'd be alarmed by a player who cannot yield to the wisdom of Shanahan, but since we are desperate to catch balls this year I'm not alarmed. His 4 year rookie contract (which we resume) was a $4.8m ($2.7m guaranteed). We will pay him through the 2011/2012 football year if there is no 2011 lockout.

All I care about is whether or not he drops catchable passes. I'm not worried about whether he will get the looks, because if Fox and Davidson hope to show Richardson they can adjust after 0-5, then our playbook is about to get an update.

This has me amped up all the way up if they can we will see but that could turn out to be a nasty combo of recievers. We might be on to something with all that talent out on the field very fast tall wideouts the potentail meter is ringing off the hook.

I hope he can tackle dbs against matt moore punts, smith was good at that

hahhahahaha I was thinking that on my negative side of my brain...

Man if you didn't make your fanboy-ism for "Clawsome" so obvious, some of your posts would have a lot of potential. Thankfully, he won't have to tackle on ducks if Clawsome is in there, he'll just be touching the defensive linemen down that recover his botched snaps and fumbled handoffs... Then when he does run routes he can just run until he hears the whistle because the ball will already be out to whoever is in the flat for a drop or 2 yard gain.
