Dog bites and kids

If a dog bites a baby, do you instantly have the dog put down?

What if the dog is hugely important to your wife, does that change anything?

Would any of you compromise with your wife in this situation, or just help her deal with the loss?

Connor didn't hurt the dog or yank on his fur (impossible since he's shaved), he just startled him by touching him.

Also, Meat, I am trying to teach my kid things, including respecting animals and being gentle with them

It's a malti-poo. If it was a pit bull, I could see your concern. If your kid gets bit, I'm sure he will know not to mess with the dog ever again.

I would watch your kid a little more carefully thats all. If your dog is in his bed with a good treat make sure the baby is out of the way. But a dog being startled and doing something like that is not uncommon. You just have to watch your kid a little better. I try my best to get my dog and baby together as much as possible, she flails and hits the dog in the mouth a lot but I make sure im very stern with my dog to where she only licks her and if she shows teeth I make a stern no to my dog. U just have to watch your kid as closely as possible thats all i can say.

yes teaching the kid to be respectful of the dog is good and all but at 8 months old all the kid knows is to eat, poop, play and drool.

Dogs can be startled easily, unless the dog was wide awake waiting for him to come and touch him so he could scratch or bite I wouldnt be too worried.
