How can anyone justify Moore over Clausen at this point?

Clausen doesn't throw to WRs downfield....he only looks to make plays when he scrambles out of the pocket. Doing so prevents him from even going to the designed plays and forces WRs just scramble.

Moore had 34 quarters of solid Panther QB play....and 5 bad ones as the Panther QB. All 5 of his were lumped together. Unfair for people to continue to claim the last 5 is what Moore really is.

Clausen can't handle basics. Moore can. Sometimes a high risk/high reward QB is your best option. That is Moore. What Clausen is doing isn't playing smart....like so many blind Clausen guys keep saying. He is lost. He isn't turning the ball over b/c he simply isn't being a QB in this offense. He bails out of what is asked. Checking down and being safe is not what this offense is about. In Fox's offense a QB has to let his players try to make some plays downfield. No doubt Moore need to be smarter when he goes to the air.....but just like all camp as it was reported Moore is ahead of Clausen.

Here's why Moore isn't the better QB. Bear with me, because these stats could be wrong because I was just copying/pasting drive charts:

Moore:

Total Drives: 23 (Yes, including garbage time)

Total Points: 23

Points per drive: 1

Total Yards:447

Yards Per Drive: 19.43

Turnovers Per Drive: .39 (LOL)

Clausen:

Here's why Moore is the worst QB. Bear with me, because these stats could be wrong because I was just copying/pasting drive charts:

Moore:

Total Drives: 37

Total Points: 30

Points per drive: .81

Total Yards:677

Yards Per Drive: 18.3

Turnovers Per Drive: .16

IF those are right, you'll see how "close" they are. If you go by a criteria like drives at or > 40 yards, you'll see Moore does a bit better, but most of that is from Game 1 against the Giants, nothing since really save for the one throw to Smitty. IF You are concerned with turnovers (if we're really a ball control O, we should be), you can see why Clausen should start. IF your only priority is to score points, well, at least Moore gives you slightly more points per drive!

A thing on Moore: Moore had some great quarters as a starter, but he was also abysmal as a backup coming into the game early in his career that season. So, while we can ignore this season's games, can we take his entire career into account then? Not just his starts? His rookie year was pretty godawful at the start, too, it wasn't until the last three games of the season he really showed much

Your only argument for starting Jimmy is he "has allot of potential upside" and he doesn't turn it over as much. Most players have A LOT of potential upside and I thought JC was supposed to be a franchise QB and not a game manager? Calling him a game manager is an insult to Trent Dilfers everywhere.

Reports from people that aren't Clausen homers said there were plenty of people open downfield but Clausen doesn't have the guts to even hit an open guy downfield.

I think he threw it out of bounds so much because that was where Goodson was.

I was however at the game, sober as a judge, sitting in a lower-level endzone seat and making a point of out watching what Clausen had to throw to and I can tell you there wasn't much open downfield or anywhere else.

He gives us less offense is what you are saying? So EVEN with all those turnovers Moore is still doing more offensively. How do you not see that Clausen is just doing absolutely nothing out there. I could go out there and throw the ball away all the time and not turn it over but I'm also not going to put many points up.

You can coach Moore to limit his mistakes. That's mental. Jimmy's accuracy and lack of arm strength for the deep ball or deep dig cannot be coached.

Matt Moore is/was a VERY young QB. 8 career starts coming in.

If Carolina was gonna let him have a shot you gotta let him work through 5 bad quarters.....you give him that room b/c of positives he has shown in actual NFL games and the fact he has proven he can have success in this style of offense.

Clausen can't handle basics required to make this offense go. Therefore he is much more pointless to have on the field as of today. We know Moore CAN do it if he is a little smarter when some throws. We don't know that about Jimmy.....

well, in Moore's defense, he is probably running the offense the way they want it... which is basically chuck it down field and watch Smith make some stupid amazing catch. That's one of the problems we have.

I'm willing to bet that there is no one open when he has time, and there is no time to hit the open man when there is an open man. I wasn't at the game, but that is what I saw from the TV feed, which was kinda crappy.
