How can anyone justify Moore over Clausen at this point?

this whole "Clausen can't sell play action" stuff is only sometimes true. On the play he missed Lafell, he sold the play action well and it would have payed off if the guy could have actually thrown it to him instead of 5 yards short, grr.

Can't give Moore a pass on his interceptions. He threw a poor ball on a slant, even if AE should have caught it, and then lofted one into triple coverage. I know he was just trying to get a TD, and I like the guy a lot, but yeah. Not all his fault, but here's the reality: With the receiving core & ol we had yesterday, both QBs would look terrible until garbage time. Clausen was getting hammered, and it clearly shook him up. Moore just showed he still has terrible decision making.

So yeah. I would go with the one who I think has greater upside. We're just going to go in circles wit h this; neither QB would have won us a game this season.

edit: P55, if Moore only does well when the pressure is off, how is it going to really do much to benefit the team? I think it'd be better to have the younger QB grow with a young receiving corps... if, of course, he can get enough protection. If Moore is not going to come in and really help, then playing him may hurt the team in the longterm... especially if he throws picks every 4 throws like it seems like he has.

I agree on the sacks bit. The Bears just completely dominated our O-Line, and when we tried to adjust to that with quick throws etc, our receivers just dropped balls until Clausen just lost all confidence. That's my concern about putting him back out there and also not putting him back out there: his long term confidence.

Much of the pressure on Moore at the beginning of the year was self-imposed as he felt a need to make things happen and prove to everyone he was the best guy. He tried so hard to make things happen, that he took risks and made some poor decisions. Now he has a chance to go back in and try when he has had time to think about his role and not take unnecessary chances. If he does well this year then the Panthers will have a choice. Pay him at the end of the year and keep him, pay and trade him, or let him go.

Clausen also has time to let things slow down, watch film, and learn from his mistakes. Game experience which is horrible is not necessarily good for any quarterback. He was to the point of getting booed out there like David Carr. I can't believe that would do anyone any good.

As for would it help Matt Moore's long term confidence if he comes back and plays well. Absolutely. Would it help the team to get a few wins and build the young players confidence? Absolutely. At this point there is really no reason to play Moore. If Clausen starts in 2 weeks you can believe that Fox didn't make that decision. He like me still wants to win this year.

If that is true, what were his two ints at the end of the last game? More self-imposed pressure?

I mean, at some point we have to accept the dude is just a turnover machine this year.

Are we really surprised, anyway? Look at who our QB coach is. Jesus. What the hell possessed this FO to go with him? Derek Anderson? REALLY? uggh.

stats don't tell you a full story. Never have, never will. Moore came in yesterday and did what he suppose to do. He did what Clausen wasn't doing. He stayed in the pocket and looked to make a throw.

Sure, Moore could have thrown the last pass away. The last play of the game could have been a thrown away ball....but that would have been retarded.

I was at the game and watched both of them play, so I'm not just quoting stats.

Moore hangs onto the ball looking downfield and forces it into coverage, Clausen does not, Moore is not exactly a TD machine in this offense either so personally I'd take the QB who generates less turnovers and that's Clausen.

Less points per game also right?

How many 3 and outs equals 1 INT?

Still trying to make a big deal out of those picks in a different thread huh? Do you actually watch games or just follow on NFL.com?

Picks are a big deal, I don't need to make them one.

I'd take the QB who does a better job of protecting the ball and that's Clausen - hands down.

Meh, Clausen has lead more long drives than Moore, though granted it took more games... it's just that in this last game, Clausen couldn't take advantage of any of the gifts, whereas against the Giants, the offense was able to at least push from turnovers before giving the ball back.

well, we need a QB that will stay in the pocket.....that is the basics of the offense. Moore at least scores points. Moore just needs to limits his turnovers (and the Bears game is not an example of his problem b/c he did what he was suppose to do on that last play of the game......again, what would you have liked for him to do then?).

Clauen literally does nothing.

Clausen doesn't throw to receivers who are not open, Moore does. Sometimes you do more by doing nothing... I'd rather go 3 and out than turn the ball over while throwing into coverage.
