How can anyone justify Moore over Clausen at this point?

He gives us less offense is what you are saying? So EVEN with all those turnovers Moore is still doing more offensively. How do you not see that Clausen is just doing absolutely nothing out there. I could go out there and throw the ball away all the time and not turn it over but I'm also not going to put many points up.

You can coach Moore to limit his mistakes. That's mental. Jimmy's accuracy and lack of arm strength for the deep ball or deep dig cannot be coached.

Jimmy Clausen is 999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999x more accurate than Matt Moore. Seriously. Please watch some game film from this season. They both miss throws but Clausen could've had twice the yardage if his passes to King and LaFell didn't bounce off their hands.

Moore would've had twice the interceptions if his passes didn't bounce off safeties' hands.

again, are you even watching games. saying it doesn't make it true. Clausen was hyped for being a more accurate option. He hasn't shown that. For every good throw Clausen mixes in a bad one. You can't claim what Clausen's accuracy is better at this point.

Moore is a gunslinger. Clausen is a dink and dunker. Given there two playing styles....Clausen's completion % is just slightly better. That shouldn't be the case considering the type ball Jimmy is trying to play.

if we are playing what if, Clausen could have a lot more fumbles than he currently has......Clausen won't have the picks b/c he isn't willing to go downfield to try to make some plays happen.

Sometimes I really wonder WHAT IN THE HE!! some of you are smoking!!

This should be Clausen's year. Fail or Succeed. The Drafting of him should let you in on why.

Food for thought......

How many people wanted Favre out of Atlanta after being drafted?

Favre's first pass in an NFL regular season game resulted in an interception returned for a touchdown. He only attempted four passes in his career at Atlanta, was intercepted twice, and completed none of them.

Atlanta coach Jerry Glanville did not approve of the drafting of Favre, saying it would take a plane crash for him to put Favre into the game.

I just don't think it matters who you put in there right now. I hear people say Clausen doesn't stay in the pocket, but too often there isn't much of a pocket to stay in. Granted, there are times that there IS a pocket and he still scrambles, but I put that down to habit because he can't count on it.

I can't help but point to the OL, given the facts before us - even if we cast aside the passing game due to rookie WRs and young QBs, we have two of the best running backs in the league and they can't get it done, either. Why not? The only runs that amount to anything tend to be reversals that are improvised by the RB. The OL isn't blocking very well, whether it's pass or rush. Obviously, we have to give the OL a bit of a break on their run blocking because our passing game is no threat and everybody knows we're going to try to run the ball. This is doubly true while Smitty is out, because there simply is no threat out there aside from our rushers. I don't think Otah is the "second coming," but I do think that putting our O-linemen in their starting positions would be a good boost overall, however small that ends up being.

As far as this QB controversy goes, I do think Jimmy needs to stay in for now. I've read this entire thread now and I see the points on both sides (Moore vs. Clausen), but I think that, given the minimal improvement on scoring that Moore delivers compared to the maximal turnover ratio he brings, Clausen is the better choice. The real stat I'd like to know (and I'm too lazy to look it up) is how many points have been scored against us off of turnovers, including Moore's games. That's the number that I'm concerned with when asked whether I'd rather have a guy like Moore who is risk/reward vs. Clausen who is largely no-risk. Risk/reward is great if the rewards outweigh the risks, but with Moore they don't. If you feel that they do, I'd love to sell you some stock in my yet-to-be-started-until-you-invest business.

RB aren't getting it done and the OL isn't looking good b/c D's are bringing too many bodies.....defenses are allowing plays to be made downfield. Carolina isn't able to make them.

when a QB scrambles instead of staying in the pocket.....those routes are killed and it becomes improv at that point. Clausen needs to stay in the pocket. He will have to take some on the chin. But until he stays in the makes those plays.....the OL won't get some of those bodies off of them.

Okay, so would you start Jake over Clausen(David Carr lite) right now?

Yeah I would. Jake could be bad or good but he was money in the fourth quarter and could lead a comeback. With Jimmy we have scored 0 points in the fourth quarter. Zero. Nada, Cypher.

Jake made lots of mistakes but Clausen right now has no potential to win a game with his play. Clausen doesn't even know what it would take to win at this point. He is nowhere ready to start in this league.

Blame it all on being a rookie but honestly even for a rookie he looks bad. Why in the world would you play him if you don't have to and frankly we don't have to play him.

That is the thing. People keep saying it is the O line's fault Clausen is getting rushed and sacked but the opposite is true as well. Clausen doesn't make the defense pay when they blitz and does nothing to throw down the field to keep folks from stacking the box. It is as much his fault as it is the line or running backs.

Excellent points that I hadn't considered. I'm also not sure Clausen has seen the kind of pressure and stacking in TC that he's seeing now, especially given our weak pressure (practicing against his own D, in other words). I guess if Pep were still on OUR D-line, Clausen would have a better concept coming into the season. Then again, he wasn't given a ton of time with the 1st team anyway, I suppose.
